SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Capped by the men’s and women’s track and field victories on Friday night, Sacramento State pulled off a huge comeback to win its fourth Causeway Cup championship over UC Davis.
To win this year’s title, Sacramento State had to overcome a 45-15 deficit in the Cup standings by closing the year on a 13-game unbeaten streak against the Aggies. That included victories from the gymnastics, men’s and women’s tennis, baseball, softball, and the men’s and women’s track and field squads.
In fact, UC Davis did not win a single competition after Dec. 19. Since the turn of the calendar, the Hornets outscored the Aggies by a 37.5 - 2.5 margin in points (men’s golf tied with UC Davis). Sacramento State’s 15 points during the fall were secured by the men’s basketball and men’s soccer programs.
