How Did Mac Do It?

I've been wondering how on earth Mac was able to sign a number of the incoming recruits. Barrington Collins, Connor Myers, James Washington, Christopher Thee and Ben Maraz (to name a few) should have all ended up at FBS schools, but instead they are coming to Ogden to play for the Wildcats. I've got a couple of theories, but I might be off on them, so if you know the story behind the recruit, please share it.

Barrington Collins I've heard is really good friends with Gelaun Wheelright, also, that he only played RB for one season (what a season) and that before he was primarily a WR before. If that is the case, those are two pretty good reasons why he is coming to Ogden.

Connor Myers could have been considered to be undersized for a DT, but I think Weber got a gem in him. There are going to be a lot of schools slapping their heads over not offering this kid. He is going to make an immediate impact on our DL.

James Washington I'm guessing the only way we got him was because of his untimely injury his junior year. I think its awesome (where is George now) that Weber got him over USU. That should be telling the Aggies how the WAC is being looked at. I'm really excited to watch James play. He is a quick, aggressive, and hard working DE. He will also make an immediate impact on the DL.

Next season is looking very promising. On a side note. Steven Carpenter...anyone heard of him. According to Scout and Rivals he committed to Weber as a WR in January. He is 6-1 190.

A lot of kids are overlooked which proves recruiting is not what you would call an exact science. There are several HS kids who were overlooked by FBS schools, only to be given a chance to show their abilities for an FCS school. Walter Payton comes to mind - as he played for Jacksonville St. In my opinion, Mac must be sincere and genuine. Mac tells the kid he is good, and through hard work, he will be able to get his chance to shine at Weber.

In life, the only thing everyone wants...........is to just have a chance....... pretty basic.

Mac gives these student-athletes the chance they are looking for. However, he has the uncanny knack to see the upside in a player.... it is a gift that he does not make mention of quite often, but he sure knows how to make a mean lemonade when he gets those lemons......WOW

There are several reasons why players would play at a winning FCS program, over a bottom dweller in the FBS.

1. On a national level nobody really cares if your fbs or fcs, its all about the bcs.
2. It dosent matter if your in a bowl conference if you never going to a bowl game anyway.
3. With Montana turning down the WAC and everybody good leaving, the conferences will be pretty close as far as attendance goes. The big sky will certainly have the team with the highest attendance in both conferences in Montana.
4. Alot less likely to ride the bench during college and more likely to play as a freshmen with 65 scholarships instead of 84 in the FBS.
5. Players actually have the chance to play for a division 1 national championship.

Steven Carpenter used to play for Jenk HS out of Tulsa OK. (Powerhouse)
Look up his states.

Looks like Carpenter played his senior year at Tulsa Edison. Makes three kids from Oklahoma in this class!

I can't find anywhere that Carpenter ever signed, and he's not on the roster with the other freshmen, including Myers and Walters. Anyone know for sure if this kid will be a Wildcat?
