How Far Will We Drop in the Polls?

SDHornet said:
This whole discussion is meaningless and not worth having unless the Hornets beat PSU. Hornets probably won't even make the playoffs without one more win. Focus on PSU, the hell with the polls/seeds/playoffs discussions.

Clearly it’s not meaningless to those participating in the thread. There’s no need to dismiss or mock our interest in the topic, SD.

Isn’t that what this forum is for? To discuss all things related to Hornet football? Or do we want less activity than we already have?

Furthermore, I contend that it does matter. Because the seeding that will take place by the powers that be is influenced by such things. If we both win out or split, UM could get a higher seed due to the nonsense.

Watched some of the UC Davis / Dixie game. It was close until Davis ran up the score later in the game against the Dixie team pieced together to play the game.

The Davis announcers felt bad for Dixie State as they shared that COVID protocols resulted in many key players for Dixie not allowed to make the trip to Davis.

So Sac State played the entire Dixie team in St. George and Davis played a fraction of the Dixie team in Davis.

Let's worry about PSU, they are coming looking for a scalp.

The UCFE game will be high intensity and it is all proven on the field.

That’s great that it gets proven on the field. But the discussion is about the here and now. Also, what if this was a team we didn’t get to play?

Not only that, proving it on the field sometimes still doesn’t tell these clowns anything. Some are still ranking UM above Sac State even though that matchup was already proven on the field.

Tell that to Michigan State too, who just beat their rival recently yet are still behind them in the CFP.

If TX A&M wins out and Bama loses to Georgia in the SEC championship, I’ll bet you whatever is left in Fort Knox that Bama is still ranked ahead of A&M when the final CFP rankings are released. It won’t matter that they both have two losses and A&M beat Bama on the field.

The clowns that run college football are among the most clueless and unqualified bunch around.

What can I say, life is not fair. Everything is jaded, elections, media, work......
Just like the D2 days, we will have to play UCFE twice if we win out.
That is not fair, just proximity.

College football has been fighting this ranking forever, remember UCF being undefeated and not getting the NC? Same BS and UM/MSU control this conference and will always be ranked/selected above a Kali team.

It helps that both programs have 20,000+ at their games.

Just pointing out that all is for naught if the Hornets don't take care of business. Lose the last 2 and we probably get left out. We win out and we'll be a seed. Split the last two and we're probably in the EWU/MSU bracket since we haven't played either this year.

Also given that the FCS has a real playoff, this all gets settled on the field one way or another...
...oh and the seed didn't help us at all last time so there's that.

Enjoying the increased comments this year and more people posting. Hope it continues.

Hornets will do just fine against PSU tomorrow.

If our Hornets keep up the winning ways for years to come — which could be contingent upon Troy Taylor spurning outside offers — that narrative will change.

Hell, if they end up winning the Big Sky outright this season and make a nice postseason run, we may see the tides start changing as early as next season. Who knows.

It may not have helped last time but that doesn’t mean it won’t this season or in the future. You always want every advantage you can get and have earned. Even though those advantages don’t always pay dividends. Statistically they do pay off a lot more than not.

That said I do agree that the Hornets do need to take care of business this week and next.

Oh the Cal message boards want Wilcox out now and Taylor in.

Per Football Scoop, Wilcox is owed about $7M for the '22 & '23 seasons. I'm not seeing Taylor turn down that kind of money when his alma mater comes calling, but who knows. I hope Taylor is here for many years to come, but if not, I'd rather the poach come sooner than later so that one of our talented coaches (Thompson) gets the nod next before someone else hires them away as well. This is a good problem to have.

Justin Wilcox signed two contracts in 2018, one entirely new contract on Sept. 26 and then, after leading California to a 7-5 regular season, a 1-year extension with a raise on Dec. 5.

He earned $2.8 million, bonuses included, in 2018, and his extension puts his 5-year contract at $14 million in salary and $1.9 million in retention bonuses. Wilcox's base salary will actually go down in 2019, to $2.5 million, but then move to $3.05 million in 2020, $3.3 million in '21, $3.450 million in '22 and, finally, $3.6 million in 2023.

As I said, clueless. Even more so, they’ve got agendas.

Having UM ranked above SAC at this point is beyond a bad joke. There’s literally no justification for it considering they both have 2-FCS losses and the head-2-head result. Which was a home loss for UM making it even more weighted.

As for the “coaches poll”, there’s not ONE coach voting in that poll that would vote UM over their own team given the exact same circumstances. Not one.

Those two polls can’t be taken seriously.

So it's #11in the nation Sac State against #10 in the nation UC Davis for this year's Causeway Classic.

Both teams 8-2.

That is pretty darn cool..

And another Causeway that can mean the Big Sky Conference title for Sac State.

And we will know by halftime what the outcome in Missoula between Montana and Montana State as the Brawl starts two hours before the Causeway.

Hope the Hornets get at least a couple sections filled with fans at the Davis stadium to cheer on the team. More would be better. Be nice for Sac State students to show up for their school, their team.

Guessing there will be tickets available without much difficulty as the Davis/EWU game was the biggest game in school history, according to the pre game hype last week. Less then 8K showed up. Plenty of empty seats/sections . Suppose to be clear and about 64 degrees at game time . Perfect

Very excited about this game and proud of the team for doing what it took to get to this place .
Confident in this team. And trust everyone will be healthy and ready to go on Saturday. And everyone will contribute 100 percent.

Roll on Hornets

Herder has put together a credible list.

Herder at HERO MIGHT be over-inflating us just a tad, but not anywhere near as much as the Coaches Poll is penalizing us. I think Athlon has surpassed STATS in terms of having us in the best spot (#8).

Yeah, I don’t have near as much problem where SAC is placed (6 or 8) just as long as UM and UCD aren’t ahead of us. That’s the issue, more specifically with UM.

At least Herder gets that. The coaches are hypocrites for not voting that way.
