How's Pulu doing?

I don't get it... why would he be subject to "trasnfer rules?" He's a legit drop-down. He shouldn't have to sit a year. That's a big loss for Eastern.
LDopaDX;
Agreed, why is it a violation of transfer rules??
But as much of a loss as it is for this year, it will be good to have a stud on the D-line next year after Renard is in the NFL, and what a huge asset it is for the o-line to be able to practice against such an outstanding assset.
One thing I have concluded, this decision as made by the :

National
Collegiate
Association
of
Assholes

Hopefully all these guys will be ready to go for the 2012 season. Losing Pulu is a big loss, though. :ohno:

I'm confused... here is the quote from the Seattle Times:

"Pulu did not meet NCAA transfer rules because he had not completed a year of residency at EWU. The school's request for a waiver was denied."

There is no "year of residency" required in a drop-down situation. He also meets the Big Sky criteria of having more than one year of eligibility. I'm totally at a loss because everything about his transfer seems by-the-book interms of being allowed by rule to play this upcoming year.

No shit, especially when
Bronson transferred to EWU after last season and will be eligible to play for the Eagles this year.

What about Bronson completing a "year of residency?" He didn't. He came over at the same time. Fucking garbage.

Agreed!
Everyone should go to the NCAA web site and leave a comment there. Your comments to the people who made this rotten decision may make a difference.

I had a lot of the same questions many of you have, and here is what I was told yesterday by EWU officials and I hope that information is correct in my memory.

There are rules that must be followed by all athletes who request a transfer and transfers are not granted by the NCAA automatically, just because an athlete wants to go to another school. Pulu was tripped up by two of those rules, listed below.

If athletes want to transfer, they must leave their former institution "in good standing". Pulu apparently did not leave UW in good standing..It was not specified if it was academic or the result of the assault charge.

Also, freshmen who want to drop down must have completed their full first year of school. Pulu did not complete that first full year. The reason why that year was not completed does not matter.

So there you have it...an athlete must leave their school in good standing and freshmen need to complete their first year or else they are sitting out for one year from the time they enroll in their new school. Bronson met both those critereia and Pulu did not.

Here's a link to an article off the NCAA website I found in a search:

Thanks for the clarification, Larry. I wasn't aware of those two rules and, while it is still frustrating, at least it makes the fact that he will sit a year valid.

Another question regarding Pulu might be - assuming he is good to go for next fall, does he have 2 or 3 years of eligibility left? Did this whole transfer rules nonsense cost him a year of eligibility? Seems like since it was the NCAA saying he wasn't eligible to play in 2011, then that should mean he still has 3 years left. Thoughts?

By the way, everything I have heard suggests that he will be fine for next year. I know he was playing on the scout team this year and was the player of the week a couple times. I imagine we will have some sort of rotation of Pulu, Cook, Day, and Delgado next season at DT. That's unless big David gets moved to OG or something.

According to some EWU players, Pulu is around 300 lbs and 12% body fat. Been working out like crazy. His bench last summer was 420lbs, so I can only imagine what another year will add, he's an absolute beast!! He does only have 2 years of eligibility remaining, as this year he had to sit out cost him a year, knid of like a prop if you want to compare.
As far as Delgado at OG, don't think so, the interior line will look like Forgette(LG), Butorac(C), Ashton Miller(RG), those were the 3 that had season ending injuries early last year. Look for Post at right tackle and either 2 of our 6'7" left tackles in Worthington or Cassidy Curtiss at Left Tackle. The QB is the big ????????

Just speculation on my part about Delgado. I know he played on both lines in HS, but was recruited to EWU as a DT. Agree that the interior line should be Miller, Butorac, and Forgette. With a young QB next season, any chance Post moves to LT to protect the blind side?

Curtis looks like he could be one of those tall athletic tackles we have had in the past like Roos was. Guys that were kind of on the small side weight-wise coming out of HS, but have room to grow and the athleticism to be really dynamic tackles.
