Idaho State at Portland State

I hope that we stomp the living crap out of the Bengals on Saturday. The team and supporters need a beat down.

ISU is allowing 329.8 yards on the ground per game?

Wow.

To be honest, if we can rule the ground, I wouldn't mind seeing a slower tempo by the offense. Give the D some rest, as they'll be challenged with ISU's passing offense.

And they're passing a whopping 534 yards a game! I have no idea how you defend against that. Guess we'll see.

I've never seen a number like that after a month of a season. Amazing.

I bet we defend it by staying in a nickel coverage for most of the game. Idaho State doesn't even attempt to establish a running game. They had a whopping -1 yd rushing at halftime last week. I know our defense has struggled against the pass, but we haven't faced a team this one dimensional. PSU doesn't have to respect the run because it is non-existent for the Bengals. All I am saying is if they are throwing 70 times a game and still losing, there's a problem.

We do have to run the ball and shorten the game. Limit the possessions for ISU and don't let their pass game get into a groove. If we do that, we only need a couple stops from our defense. I really don't think ISU will be able to stop our balanced attack. I'm expecting a huge game for DJ, Shaq, and Kieran.

I suspect you're right and we'll see a lot of that 3-3-5 look that we've seen at times this year.

Is Monahan back today?

Yes, Monahan is returning to action today!

Sweet!

Should reduce the drops that we've seen.

I really do suspect that 3-3-5 as well. And regarding Monahan, I saw this on his Twitter account last night:

@JustinMonahan84: Game day tomorrow! Finally back out there! #RollViks

I hope he is back and relatively healthy. It'd be nice to get our sure handed, stud receiver back.

If the defense doesn't have to worry about the running game, we might see Marquis Jackson, Alexander, Jester and the other guys on the line have a field day with Yost. If they can rush the QB almost every snap, we might see a lot of sacks.

My thoughts exactly. This should be a dream match up for Marquis and Alexander. Let them pin their ears back and get after Yost. Pressure on the QB will really help the secondary out. Marquis and Alexander have shown flashes so far this year (and our physically impressive); however, the battle seems to lie in those two keeping their motors and effort high for the whole game. If Idaho State really does plan to throw 60+ times like I think they will, we could see some rotations on the DL to keep our guys fresh. SUU at least attempted to establish the run game before Sorensen took over, but I really don't think ISU will. I believe Yost comes out slinging, so let's make them pay.

We seem to be 6-7 deep on the D-Line these days, so I think our guys should have enough juice to get through the game.

I was checking out the score on Yahoo. 12:45 left in the 4th PSU 63 Idaho State 10.

Where is the vaunted Bengal aerial attack we were so worried about, or has the secondary finally shown up to play?

Update: Final score 77-10. I would love to see the box score on this one.

My oh my.

What an ass kicking. Had to leave a bit early. With that amount of points, and the tv time outs, we just had to get out of there. Some comments:

-First off. We need to get the band back together! PSU band was in the house tonight! Great start to what has the ability to be a full marching band at some point.

-The uniforms. I saw the team come out and my first thought was, what the what? After seeing those for a bit, I really like them. Camo actually fits with our color scheme.

-ISU really helped us early with some drops, and we didn't help our case with a bunch of penalties. After that, it was no contest. Since we left early I got a chance to hear Hewitt list the statistics, and I didn't realize how close we were to records for offense tonight. We actually set the single game rushing record, and we were pretty close on the total offense record. That's amazing given that we put up over 100 points on a team during the Lomax days.

-What in the hell was with ISU with the two head to head hit and then two personal foul (offensive line guys) penalties? No need for that. That hit on Carter should have resulted in an ejection, and that offensive line guy actually was tossed.

-We still have issues of corners having their back to the ball. Some things never change.

-Sluss=beast

-D-line had great pressure at times tonight and I think that the coaching staff did a great job of pushing different looks at the ISU offense.

- McDonagh. Linebackers should be afraid. He put yet another one on his ass tonight, then rambled over a safety into the end zone. Love it.

-Special teams started out craptastic, but ended up doing well. Nice to see Fernandez booting some through the end zone, or at least putting it around the five.

-Blowout wins make Saturday nights much better. :-)

Gutsy call going for the flea flicker on your own 1 yard line.

Wasn't expecting to see Sulleyman playing, and Sisler not. I assume Joel is injured and Sulleyman just became eligible. Anyone know the deal on those two?

I remember thinking Shaq was crazy for saying on oregonlive "I feel like that record that we set last year is about to be broken again." I guess he knew what he was talking about.

Great to hear that we have the beginnings of a possible marching band.

Anybody get pictures of the uniforms? Camo appeals to the old NCO in me. I hope we wear them more often.
