Idaho State

Idaho St is not deep, but has a pretty good trio of guards all scoring 15-16 a game. They, like lots of BSC teams play a pretty small line-up. They've been starting four guys who are all 6-3 or 6-4, and a 6-9 center. They shoot very well. over 45% from the field and almost 40% from 3.
Weber will need to a good game to get the W tonight.

Vegas odds show Weber at 9.5 point favorite, which sounds about right. Bill Evans has basically reduced the ISU rotation to 7 players, the starting five and Magot and Hall. Two freshmen, Scott Tyler and Justin Smith, were getting minutes early but haven't been very productive. If ISU comes out hot, they can play with anybody in the league. If they're not shooting well (and they shot very poorly against SUU), they are very mediocre. Against a man D, Andre Hatchett is their key offensively. He's been extremely aggressive going to the hoop against man, and if he doesn't score, he's pretty good at finding the open man. Chris Hansen is a great 3-point shooter, gets a lot of points on the secondary fastbreak, and is the main weapon against a zone. Tomas Sanchez is another key -- when he's on (as he was in the first half against Utah) from 3, he makes ISU a very tough guard. When he's turning the ball over (as he was against UND), well it's a long night. You'll also appreciate Jeff Solarin, listed at 6-4, admits to being 6-3, has a great motor, big hands and a great "nose" for the ball off the glass.

Unfortunately for the Bengals, they start off this 3-game week on the road, then have to take on the two Montanas. They need to play well to build some momentum for this weekend's games. We are playing at Reed Gym this weekend, which can be a great environment when the Bengals are playing well. Last year, we blew out MSU and gave Montana a great game at Reed. Big week for us -- we need to go at least 2-1.

Perhaps on paper a 9.5 fav...but Wildcats are sputtering on offense and defensive lapses happen often, not a tough team yet...should be an interesting match up. Glad that the Bengals have improved this year, with a good coach, and that just enhances the rivalry. Good Luck to the Bengals AFTER TONIGHT (against the Montanas--BEAT EM!!!) :)

I think that our guys will be up for this game. ISU will be up for it as well. We are quite aware of what ISU has been doing this year. This is the most dangerous team they have had for quite a while. I expect a really good game. It will be hard fought, no matter what the score turns out to be. ISU may be in a zone the whole game. We will need to attack it from the inside. If it is true that they lack depth, we need to continually attack until we get some of their guys on the bench. We should not be taking a lot of fade away jumpers and long hook shots. We should be attacking the glass, every chance we get. If we do that the three shot will come easier. I really hope we get some experienced refs. If we get an inexperience crew, like Saturday night, you never know what might happen.

I feel that our team will settle down and shoot better in this game. We should be well prepared for their zone. We have seen it enough over the past several years, via SUU, UM, and now ISU. If it is true that they don't have the depth, they may not try to press us that often. I think it's going to be a great game. :coffee:

This game stat-wise is almost even:

Use the home court, lower T/O s and make free throws, and we should win. Coach Evans has the Bengals playing pretty well, and they get their chances with the Montanas this week too.

This will be a big week in the Big Sky, sorting out the teams.

I like the better defensive team in this one, especially with the defensive team being on their hone court. I like to hope Weber won't struggle as badly shooting as they did vs the overly physical dbags known as SUU. Weber's front-court has to step it up, they can't rely on the inconsistent shooting and awkward-at-times offense of the back-court. As always, I'm looking forward to this game with Weber's true rival and have a feeling Weber is going to win this one more comfortably than the stats would indicate.

I think it fitting that BENGALHATER chime in at this time, as I enjoy a Big K Vanilla Cola (cold, crisp, and refreshing... :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: I have been hearing some great things about ISU these days, thank heavens for Bill Evans, Weber and ISU can maybe be rivalries again. Anyway, I haven't been to too many games this year. The games I've seen WSU looks like a glorified High School basketball team.

I have not been impressed at all with how these dudes gel. Maybe Rahe needs to kick someone off the team. Every time Randy has done something like that, it has generally been a positive route with the team. Think back to 2007, Rahe was hired, came and kicked everybody off the team except Dan Henry, Brody Van Brocklin (who happens to be my neighbor) and the "General" David Patten :notworthy: :notworthy: . They went on to win the title and get creamed be UCLA, by the hands of Kevin Love, Russel Westbrook, Darren Collison etc... Then a couple years after that Tyler "whats his bucket" was kicked off the team... And Weber was a much better team because of it.

Rahe needs to clean this team up... I talked to Brody and he agrees with me. Something needs to be done. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

I think the team responds well tonight. We need to win every home game. Road wins are looking to be at a premium this year, and we can't let ISU get one.

Last game was like being spotted with a less than attractive date. It is forgotten when you show up with a super hot date.

Oh, okay BH great insight & suggestions :dunce: :wtf:

OK, BH. Who you going to toss from this team. There isn't a turd in the bunch. Yes we have a lot of youth and inexperience, so what? It hasn't been a gem of a schedule, but this team is coming around. I would rather have them hit their peak in March than January. The talent is conspicuous, and they are fun to watch. It's hard for anyone to look good against a team that plays the way SUU does. They hack, hold, push, elbow, and worse on every possession. The BSC needs to get a handle on them or there will be some fights breaking out soon.

The opposite will be true with ISU. They will try not to get their guys in foul trouble. They are 20 times smarter than SUU and know that they have little depth. It will be a more open and free flowing game. If we are able to pull their zone out of position and score regularly, It will open up even more.

One main concern is we didn't have a FG the last 4 and a half min of the SUU game. We didn't run hardly any plays, just Berry getting to the line. Luckily we made some key foul shots or that game may of been in the loss column. We can't afford stretches like that this game, I know we don't treat ISU as much of a rival but I've been to games in pokey and they sure do (I hate weber shirts). We better be ready to play

We were running offence the whole second half. The offence we were running was to take nothing but layups. The defense they were playing was to foul before giving up a layup. The refs really could have called twice as many fouls on them if they were going to be fair about it. Every timeout, the refs would look up at the scoreboard, see that they had called more fouls on SUU, and immediately call a couple of make up fouls on Weber. I think they have been instructed by the BSC to make the fouls as even as they can. The problem with that is when you get a team using the SUU tactics. Then, one team gets away with murder, while the other gets ticky-tac stuff called on them. It makes the refs appear quite incompetent.

This game with ISU should be a lot different. I don't expect them to play like SUU. Honestly, I don't think SUU's coach will be there much longer. It isn't a winning formula and the BSC will crack down on them eventually. :twocents:

ive always said, though i think its just pointing out of obvious...smart offense in big sky games is to just drive to the hole every play. you need good ball handlers which weber always has + big sky refs aint the greatest + big sky bigs in general are the weakest link on the floor every season. i first noticed it with jermaine boyette. its so simple.

you drive to the hole and odds are you get to the charity stripe. 7 times out of ten big sky refs call a foul on the defense when you drive it in, 2 times they will call you on a charge, the other one is a no call. we all know a no call in big sky in this situation is very low.

smart players know big sky refs suck so they take advantage. we really should cut back on shooting 3's. suu is a great example of when you really should take advantage.

Oh, in this case, the refs were every bit as incompetent as they appeared. They easily make my top 10 most pathetic crews I've ever witnessed at the DEC.

I think that can just be classified with the overall apathy of the WSU student/fan. ISU is Weber's truest rival that has just been pretty one-sided and unexciting recently. ISU is the only team that has ever gotten to me enough to dang near jump on the court and probably end up in jail. Of course, you have to go back quite a few years for that.

We need to start playing better or we are going to lose more games. We have gotten lucky the last games but who knows how long it will last.

I dont know if Rahe ate a piece of humble pie but on the post game show he was saying how this team cant score the ball like in past yrs and they are not going to be able to run away from teams like they did before. I am glad he is able to admit that but to me you cant coach like you did in the past either. Granted we dont all sit at every practice but the majority of the plays are similar to previous years. I think a different team calls for a different plan of attack. Can Rahe do it is the question.

I actually think he might be over coaching the kids. They need to loosen up and have some fun out there on offense. I have been fairly happy with our defense and rebounding the last few games.
