This is a pretty interesting situation as to what Idaho may do.

I'd love to see them join the Big Sky in all sports.

I think Idaho coming back would be a good thing, HOWEVER... With 14 teams, I think the bigsky should be splitting up, as that is just too many teams.

With two divisions in the conference and the overall strength of the Big Sky, could we get two automatic berths or is that a pipedream?

I think that the next proposed expansion (to 24) of teams will probably provide one additional auto bid to provide the Pioneer Football League with one, as they don't have one now.

Would Idaho be immediately competitive enough in the Big Sky to give the perennial powers in the conference a challenge. It would be nice to see another team in the conference to challenge both of Montana's for league domination.

They would most likely be under a period of probation, and thus unable to actually compete for titles for a few years. But yes, football wise they are a good program, and were very competitive when they were in the big sky.

Regarding giving the "M" schools real competition at the top of the Big Sky, that's what the Viks are building. This is going to be a powerhouse conference with or without Idaho, but bringing them into the fold will certainly make for many fun seasons of gridiron.

The Vandal alums and fans are greatly against moving down, but its gotten to the point they might not have a choice. Would be a solid addition to the conference. Never should have moved up to the FBS in the first place.

I completely see the point of their alumni and fans.

It's the equivalent of moving back in with your parents. Completely embarrassing, but if it's not working out, it's not working out and something needs to change.

Hasn't their program turned it around somewhat as of late? Anyways, given that in the WAC bowl games are a possibility, while in the Big Sky you have to win it all to just have a postseason, I can see why moving down would be such a downer for fans.

Its all a matter of perspective....their one "major highlight" since moving up was a thrilling win over Bowling Green in the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl in Boise. Kind of pathetic.....and with conference realignment worsening every day, that bowl game would be the pinnacle of their program.....with time, I'm sure they would prefer to play in a playoff for a national championship.

It all comes down to pride. The elephant in the room of the debate is plain and simple: They don't want to seal their fate in their ongoing "rivalry" with Boise State. Move down, and BSU will run away with support within the state. I know....BSU has practically already had done that, but there's still some false sense of hope within the Vandal community as long as BSU and UI have the same "FBS" distinction next to their name. Eliminate that, and the battle is officially over instead of it just being massively lopsided. Its all about pride, and its hard for them to accept that there may not be any other options.

IMO, their isolated location has always limited them. FBS ball success in Moscow was never going to happen.
