Impact Players Next Year

Yesterday we'd had our fill of college basketball and Superbowl hype so we pulled out the Montana v. EWU DVD and watched the first game on the Red Turf. I came away thinking, among other things, how different the team looked at the end of the season due to the growth of players and how good Beaumonte looked running the ball before he got hurt. So since we're in that horrible time between signing day and spring ball, and keeping in mind that JC Sherritt made the most of his career the last two seasons he was at Eastern, it seemed like a good time to throw around the topic "Who's going to step up next year?"

My hope is we have another Buchannan award winner.
That would be; drum roll please,
98 Renard Williams
DL 6-2 300 Jr. 2L* Port Orchard, Wash. / South Kitsap HS '07

Chris Powers, All-American Center ! Will be a senior this year, 6-2 292lbs, 2yr starter will take total control of the O-line and set the stage for the inside running of Beaumonte amd Bronson, will make BLM an even better passer ! GOEAGS!

I like this choice also!

My question is who steps up at corner? we're losing our starting cb's...One player i believe we should keep an eye out for is Chandler Gayton. He was a backup corner last year as a freshman, he had some impressive highlights coming out of highschool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv1Kjt8i_18" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; He should be a good one. Anyone else that may surprise us and be a solid cb next year?

Renard is an obvious choice, but look for Matt Johnson to be a legitimate Buchanan contender next year. I'm wondering if Zach will transition over to strong side LB with Sherritt graduating, and who will start at the other outside LB position. Will the Freshman LB from Boise play next year??? He's more of an inside linebacker, but makes you wonder.

As far as the corners go, I think it will be between Gauldin, Baines, and Gayton, with Brown in the mix at corner or safety. Yeah, we lost a couple good corners but I think there's plenty of young talent to draw from, so I am not massively concerned.

On offense, our passing game could be even more potent with Mitchell returning and two pretty elite receivers in Kaufman and Edwards. Boy, do we pose some mis-match problems with those two. In addition to this, I think our TE's are going to play a bigger part in the passing game next year with both Seto and Gehring getting a year of experience under their belts. The RB situation should be very interesting next year, with several players looking to step into TJ's shoes. Honestly, I think we're going to see a lot of different guys get playing time, depending on the situation. I'm really excited to watch the 3 B's (Brown, Beumonte, Bronson) along with Chase King and Johnson.

What a problem to have. We have sooo many really good players coming back and an outstanding staff to "coach 'em up". On the top of the list has to be Renard. If you look back at the games you have recorded, watch the impact Renard has on most plays, even when he does not get stats for his efforts, he disrupts the play. In particular look back at the last play of the championship game. Given enough time the pass would have been an easy one but who is pressuring the QB?? Yep, JC and Renard so the pass is rushed and not a good throw.
On offense we have such an outstanding corp of receivers that make BLM look good. And BLM himself, what a difference from the beginning of the season. I would expect to see him really shine.
Hard to choose but if I had to it would be Renard on def and BLM on off.
Go Eagles!

Matt Johnson and Renard are givens, but look for look for Pulu to have an impact as Renard will continue to receive a lot of attention. I'm also curious to see Zach step it up in replacing J.C. It was nice to have a legitimate playmaker who could take over a game at all three levels last year.

On offense, don't forget about Greg Herd being more of an impact player. And yes, you can't leave out Chris Powers. Good call on that one.

Look for Cory Mitchell, Bo's brother to realy come on this year after red-shirting. They have been chomping at the bit to for this season. He should be slated as a slot reciever.

Can't wait! We're going to have a lot of talent at receiver again next year, as we don,t lose anyone and have young guys who had the benefit of playing 4 extra games. The more I think about it, scheduling issues aside, we have the depth to make another deep run next season. Is it August yet?

EWURanger,
I saw Cory Mitchell, when he first arrived @ EWU, worked out on the Practice Field, I knew we had a new person on the field snatching passes from his brother and other QBs. Once I saw him, I asked who he was, I found out he is Bo brother. I knew we had another great WR. This team has so much talent, if I was Coaching at another University, I would be shaking in my boots having to face this team this year.

After practice Bo came over and introduced Cory to myself and daughter. Him as a Slot Receiver, will make us a better team. Cory is not scared to go across the middle, I saw some hits on some of Slot Receivers, scare me at times. Read some of the stats from QB from California, we are going to have some very great practices between our QB. Greg who redshirted last year,I think will be backup, he have the hight, size, for that position. I continually tease him, telling him he will make a great TE, he just smiles.

Don't forget this Sunday Feb. 13th,@ 1pm will be the "FOOTBALL BANQUET"on Campus in the Multipurpose Room. $30.00 per person. I've attended many of the banquets, and met some of the new recruits, and other Players. Outstanding bunch of young men @ Eastern Washington University. Hope to see many of our bloggers at the Banquet if possible. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

wineguy,
Glad to see you are back with us. I know all of you had Outstanding times in Frisco, sorry I had to miss it. My trips to my Chiropractor is now down to once a week, should be finished in another 3 weeks if not before.
My Doc said "This Old Horse Will Survive, and be ready for football this year".

With all that talent we now have, should scare a lot of teams we face this year. Hope things are going well with you. You can be very proud of your SONS, I now have met three of them, and they are all very respectable. Should have an opportunity to meet you this year. Take Care. Vic

HannahO,
I wasn't into the Superbowl, my Rams was left home, Like Ex. BB Player Barkley have said "gone fishing" , so I sat down, and before I knew it I was asleep. I had just gotten back from visiting my son, who is a Pastor in Moses Lake.

I just converted to Comcast, since DirecTV couldn't come to an agreement with Fox Sports. I had two of the Playoff Games, that I lost once I left DirecTV. Will try and find someone that is selling the DVDs for all the playoff Games we had. #48 should shine this year,he should be a starter we hope. Bet him and all players can't wait to get their Championship Rings :thumb: . Hope the family can make it for the Football Banquet this Sunday 1 PM. Have a great day. Vic

flyingnail,
Great Banquet Today. Surely was nice meeting you and the Bouterac today. You both can be proud of your sons, they are always very respectable, as is all our players. Where ever they see myself and daughter, they always come and talk with us. Hope all of you and everyone that attended the Banquet have safe trips back to your destination. Hope to see some of you during the Spring when the team gets going. Go Eagles!!!!!Vic Wallace

TO ALL BLOGERS,
Today we had an "Outstanding Football Banquet" :thumb: . It was very packed, the biggest one I have seen in the past ten years I have been attending. Now for help for our "Football Excellence Fund" I will put two paragraphs that will apply. Football Excellence Fund is Football's fund raising arm. Its purpose allows us to raise funds to purchase items such as field video, and travel equipment. It also helps us continue to provide NCAA approved supplements, helps us pay for "Spring Recruiting" and"Professional Development". In order to continue to put our student athletes in the best possible positions to achieve success on and off the field, we need to replenish, refurbish and upgrade in all these areas.

This is an Exclusive Invitation that is only being extended to alumni and families of our current student athletes. We, the staff, are humbled by the character that resides in our locker room. We will do anything to solidify a high standard of safety and character. We will strive to provide a competitive environment which affords our young men the opportunity to grow into Champions on and off the field. Our players are awesome reflections of where they're from and very good ambassadors of the University they represent! they don't settle - they achieve! This is why we ask for your help!

I will kick in $500.00 to start, hope many of you can do the same. I have been around those young men for quite some time and enjoy having them around myself and family. Maybe this letter should not be on the blog, I took the chance to help our Players and the Football Program.

If you cannot donate, please try and become an EAA Member, I am going on my 11th year, raising funds for Athletic Scholarship. Thanks all of you very much. If you need anymore information call 509-359-2463.Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

Hope to see you at the spring practices and for sure the red/white game, take care of the back !

Already an EAA member, but how does one contribute to the football excellence fund? This is the type of information that needs to get out on a wider scale, because this is the first I've heard of it and thanks for posting.

Yes, we do have some impressive recruits coming in but... that is not the point. A number of the outstanding players we have now and have had were not highly recruited, and many of the best were walk-ons. What makes a winning TEAM is the cohesiveness, leadership, and coach-ability of the players, and a great coaching staff that really cares about each and every player.
Repeat?? You bet I am ready for a repeat. It is a fine line between 1st and 2nd as we saw in the NC game but I am very confident we have the right stuff to get back there. ( and this time Vic needs to be there too!!)
Go Eags
