Injuries

Does anyone know why #8 Emmett Tela didn't play in the last game? I saw that he was listed as a starter but didn't notice him out there. He is a player our Defense is going to need this year!! Seems like our team got pretty beat up out there. Hopefully any of the injured guys will be better for next week!

Yeah not having Tela in and Key getting hurt did not help our defense, but it wouldn't have changed the outcome much. Brandon Garside also said Zach Smith is banged up so he was held out of the game too.

Banged up?

Is that a football term for "We don't want to tell you what is wrong, or when he might be back"?

Injuries are inevitable in football. That is why recruiting and developing depth is so important. In FCS football we have about 22 less scholarship to work with than FBS. That is one of the reasons it is hard to compete, up a level. This is supposed to be one of our better teams in recent history. That tells me that either we are not where we thought or USU is better than everyone has predicted. We won't know for a while yet. Teams generally improve the most from game one to game two. We can hope. :coffee:

More bad news on the injury side, Wilkes 13# the hardest running back in Utah has a high ankle sprain and will be out estimated 4 weeks. Get well soon Mr. Wilkes the Cats need you.

I knew that Tela was questionable for Thursdays game and most likely out. He could be available this week, but will be more at full strength by the Sac St game. He could go this week, but why chance it. He has been out for most of camp. We are deep at LB, but have three out right now.

Our defense is definitely banged up. Key, Tulane, Johnson all went down on Thursday, and there were a number of guys already out on defense. I wish we had a list, but the program wants to keep things quiet on injuries. They have ever since Hill became the coach. It is his program and that is fine. Our DE's aren't injured but they sure played like they were sick!!

I'm worried about Wilkes, since Smith is also banged up right now, but Weber still has Garrett, Pooler, Moimoi, and a good running FB in Thompson. Offense, it isn't the line or the RBs, but the QB and WRs that are a serious concern. I would have put Cantwell in at the end of the 3rd and just let him go. Clark was terrible.
