Injuries

Anthony Larry and Taiwan Jones went out and did not return, although TJ was pacing the sidelines and wanted back in. Several other players got dinged up, but returned. Please post any info on the injury front if you have it.

From the Spokesman-Review article on Taiwan:
http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2010/sep/11/ewu-hangs-beat-central/
Junior running back Taiwan Jones had another big game, rolling up 235 all-purpose yards and scoring three of Eastern’s five touchdowns. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound speedster, who was vomiting before the game, rushed for 89 yards on 14 carries, scoring on a pair of short runs, and caught four passes for 63 yards and another touchdown.

But there were some anxious moments when Jones was helped off the field with 111/2 minutes left in the game and did not return.

According to Eastern coach Beau Baldwin, Jones suffered a minor concussion but should be ready for Montana. Brian Norton, the Eagles’ head athletic trainer, said he thought dehydration was involved, because of Jones’ undiagnosed illness.

From the sounds of it he should be able to play, but who knows. Hoping for the best; we need him if we're going to have a chance to beat UM.

How tough a player is TJ? Seriously, playing through everything he did last year.......and then puking before the game? Sounds like there's more to what was going on with him than just the couple big hits he took.

It's not healthy that our offense is SO reliant on one player right now. We need Mitchell to step up and make big throws... at least from time to time. If he can't hit Kaufman along the sidelines (note: he did it on that one TD pass, which was great), we need to find someone who can. Maybe we've just been spoiled with good QB play for so long, a guy who is just "competent" looks weak.

Right now, our whole offense flows through Taiwan. Beaumont is a change of pace, but he can't produce the kind of every-down threat Taiwan does.

If ever there was a time for BLM to come to life, it'll be this week. Maybe he is trying to do too much too soon, I don't know.......But honestly, I think some of the pressure to perform and having to fill the shoes of Nichols could be getting to him a little, maybe not. But I think partly some of it is the new system. There has to be a reason that he continues to over-throw his receivers.....also seemed like there were a few times where he expected Kaufman to break off his route and he didn't. BLM obviously has the talent and the arm, he just needs to settle in a little and get comfortable out there. I think the best is ahead for him, honestly - too early to ring in any kind of verdict.

Also, let's not dismiss the receivers from this discussion - part of our lack of passing game is on them. BLM threw a perfect pass to Edwards late in the game that could have put the game away, and he let it bounce right off his chest. Where has Edwards been the first two games, anyway? He looked really promising towards the end of last year, and he hasn't done a thing so far. We seemed to have more productivity from our slot receivers than anything else.

What was frustrating about this game was that we had 2 extra days to prepare for it. I heard somewhere that CWU had two weeks to prepare, but still no excuse. We may have been playing down some to the level of competition, but no excuse for our lack of production offensively, all of the false-starts, dropped balls/over-thrown passes.

The saving grace was of course TJ, but I agree that he's can't shoulder everything on his own - we need to get the pass game fixed now.

We need to find away to control the ball, past 2 games we had only 60+ plays in the game , lost time of possesion battle , yardage battle and almost both games ! Neither the offense or the defense has been up to the task yet, will they make adjustments, good question. The offense hasn't clicked "except TJ" and the defensive secondary looks like swiss cheese ! May be we ARE spoiled by the past few years, because BLM is no Matt Nichols, the defense is way out of sync, and the scary part is we've only JUST started !!! Was at the game at Quest and we looked like a team going in different directions, no spark, no leadership, and no second half adjustments !!! May be getting close to prayer time !! GOEAGS !
