Interesting Comment by NAU Freshman

I thought this was pretty funny. This freshman obviously doesn't follow Big Sky basketball. His name is Gabe Rogers and he believes his teammate Cameron Jones is thee "BEST" player in the Big Sky. Like you have to be kidding right? Jones is a decent player, but can this freshman not remember what Lillard did to his team? Only a sort while ago? Was this freshman not at the game or what? I take offense to such a dumb statement. Obvious I think Lillard is the "best" player the Big Sky and the state of Utah has to offer. I hope that when NAU comes here for a little visit they enjoying hearing that MVP chant for Lillard!!

I was at the NAU game and there was no doubt who played best that night. Gabe must have been sleepin'!

Cameron Jones, the reigning Big Sky Player of the Week, continued his pattern by scoring 27 points on 9 of 12 shooting from the field and 9 of 11 from the free-throw stripe. - Jackcentral.com

I have some issues with this stmt. Jones is not the reigning Big Sky POTW. If I remember right, Lillard and Morgan were named the co-players of the week on Monday. I don't know who wrote this article, but they are not doing their homework. Also, Lillard went off for 36 points on 10 of 11 shooting from the field and 10 of 11 from the free-throw stripe. Last I looked Jones was 4th in scoring in the 'Sky.
Jones - "best player in the conference?" What is that frosh smoking????

Jones is a candidate for big sky mvp but if the current trend continues he wont be a finalist.

wsu lillard
um aj
nau jones
isu amorrow morgan
unc beizel or figures
msu howard or rush

the big sky mvp will be lillard if we host, if we dont host he still may win but that would increase another teams chances of getting the award.

Lillard is by far the best player in the Big Sky right now, Iv'e watched Cameron Jones, especially in the last 2 games on tv, he's not much of a team player, on 3 on ones he takes the ball all the way instead of dishing it off to one of his open teammates, he takes alot of bad shots, he gets kind of selfish, having said that he is a good player, but not as good as Lillard.

Stats here are prior to tonight's game vs. MSU(courtesy of ESPN):

NAME GM MIN PTS REB AST TO A/T STL BLK PF FG% FT% 3P% PPS
Cameron Jones 19 33.2 18.2 4.6 3.0 3.1 1/1 1.2 0.1 1.9 .516 .763 .425 1.38

He went for 22 points with 9 rebounds and 4 assists tonight. 3-5 from three point range. One turnover.

Is Cameron Jones the purest talent in the Big Sky...no. He lacks hops or explosiveness of players like Lillard and, gotta use this for comparison's sake, Stuckey from EWU. Is Cameron Jones the best player in the Big Sky...no. From what I've seen I'd have to go with Lillard.

I attended the U of A-NAU game in Tucson early in November and sat with two friends who are die-hard U of A fans. Both of them commented after the game about how sneaky and unassuming Jones was in getting 29 pts.

Cameron Jones was the Big Sky Conference player of the week the previous week. Here's the link:

WSUfan - Taking offense at that....come on now. Is it a truly dumb statement on Rogers' part or is it a case of a team mate just giving his friend some props? What do you expect him to say in that situation? I'm sure Weber State's players would give a similar statement giving credit to Lillard if given the chance.

No hate here, Wildcat fans. I've always respected the tradition there at WSU and the fan support you guys have had over the years. Maybe even a bit jealous about the fan support. I don't disagree with the opinions here that Lillard deserves consideration for top conference player right now.

Just don't become like a few Griz football fans and be unwilling and unable to give just a bit of credit where it's due.

I'll end this stream of consciousness now and wish you well til later on this season.

MTJack, thank you for your post. I do agree that both Lillard and Jones are fine athlete. Both are the better player on each roster. I do understand that teamates give each other props and probably after that game he felt that Jones was the best player. I haven't read a article or a quote on WSU player saying that Lillard is the "best" or stuff like that. Lillard is a unselfish and almost never takes credit for a win, to him it's a team sport. Sorry MTjack if my comments came off as offensive to the other players and teams. I respect all Big Sky teams and players. Thanks for your interest in WSU basketball.
