Anonymous interviews were conducted on prominent high school football coaches. One coach, while discussing schools in the Northwest and their ability to identify in-state talent said this:

"I think Oregon does a phenomenal job. I think they do a better job than any Northwest school. Coach Petersen and his staff at Washington are closing the gap on them, but for the past 10 years, Oregon has been substantially ahead of the rest of the Northwest schools at identifying Northwest talent and of having great relationships with the local high school coaches and programs. I would say the second-closest school to Oregon in the Northwest is Eastern Washington, and you can see the success they are having.

I posted a few months ago on the recruiting advantages that EWU has being in a state with nearly 7 million people and only 2 FBS and 1 FCS programs in Washington. With all of the other disadvantages that EWU has had to other Big Sky programs in terms of history, budget, facilities, etc., it is the fertile and under cultivated recruiting ground that Washington has that has allowed EWU to transition up to DI-AA in the 80's and build the dominate program we now enjoy.

The other obvious advantage is absolutely outstanding coaches that have stayed for extended periods to develop those recruiting relationships. In 30+ years EWU has had Zornes, Krammer, Wolfe and Baldwin leading the program; that is freaking awesome!!!

It definitely pans out when you look at our 2015 recruiting class. We have a large group of kids that had multiple offers nationwide. They choose EWU over many other schools, including "bigger" football schools.

I'd also add that the current coaching staff has done a tremendous job of recruiting the entire west coast and not just the pacific northwest. look at some of our players from california and you'll see what I mean.

A+++ commentary. I agree 100%. For all the disadvantages Eastern faces in terms of financing, our location also brings us huge advantages. If we get this money thing squared away, we are a superpower.

Yes, the Stadium upgrade would put us way over the top as long as we have Baldwin and his staff.
