Interesting State of Affairs

After that horrendous start to the season, our beloved Hornets now find themselves in a three-way tie with Montana State for the conference lead at 2-0. Who else is in that mix? Due to a scheduling quirk whereby TWO disastrous "conference" games don't count (most of the rest of us only have ONE of those dumb games), it's UC Davis following their convincing 21-3 win at Southern Utah.

Sure, there's a lot of time between now and Causeway (and time enough for one or both of us to screw the pooch). But the 60th Causeway Classic could well be the one that we've all been waiting for: one that not only has rivalry implications but could mean something for a league championship or even more.

In terms of remaining schedule, I think we have an advantage: UCD has BOTH of the Montanas AND Cal Poly (the dummies scheduled the Griz for Homecoming next week). For us, the two hardest games left are UM and Cal Poly (though NAU next week could be tough).

It seems that the staff got Odiase under control. Thank God for THAT....

I have to disagree. The rest of our schedule is brutal. We always seem to struggle against Northern Arizona and they are good this year, North Dakota at the dome will be tough, Montana has the very real possibility of being an embarrassing blowout, then on the road at SLO feels like a loss, and follow it up with a trip to Portland against a Vikings team that looks lethal. Ending it against the team up 80 a ways, I want to have the confidence to say we win, but they have our number.

I just don't see the results coming in at this point. I want to be wearing my rose colored glasses, but I'm simply still not sold on this squad and leadership. I desperately want to be proven wrong, but wont be holding my breath. We had two cupcake opponents to make us feel good for a few weeks, but the gauntlet is waiting for us from here on out.

That's two "cupcake" opponents against whom we have struggled the last few years (particularly AT Weber). We've never lost to UNC, but the last couple of years have been close.

I'm not saying the rest of the way will be easy, SJ. Far from it. But it should be SOMEWHAT easier relative to Davis....

This. It's good to see the Hornets taking care of business against the weaker teams, but the Hornets have yet to gain a quality win.

SH stop riding Odiase's jock. He has been fine since he arrived here 4 years ago.
