Israel Barnes

It's official!

This is a great get for WSU. A great basketball player and an even better young man. We're all going to love this young man.

Good read, thanks. The following stood out to me and wonder how different his situation, focus, and talent is from Dame$

“How good do you want to be?” his dad asked.

“I want to be the best.”

Barnes is set to graduate with a solid grade-point average, a firm support system behind him, and most important for mom, an aim.

Writing has become a form of self-expression and a kind of art for Barnes, and he has become quite the maestro.

“It’s another way for me to create, outside of basketball,” Barnes said.

IMHO, Israel's talents and Dame's talents are very similar, coming out of HS. Will he develop like Damian did? Who can really say. He certainly has the potential to do just that. He has the potential to be a major contributor right out of the gate. He is just as good as a person and a student. I am looking forward to watching him play at the Dee and beyond. :coffee:

You have to remember, Dame didn't come in as a NBA player. He had to work quite hard for that opportunity.

One talented kid. He is smart, focused, and can really play basketball. We are very lucky to have Israel joining the Wildcats. By the way, on opening night last week, Barnes ended up with 29 points. He had 25 with 14 mins left in the game. Safe to assume that he was pulled early. Throughout the entire summer, playing AAU, against some of the best teams in the Eastern US, he consistently scored in the mid to high 20s. He scores in a variety of ways. He is a really good outside shooter, can get to the rim, and has a nice pull up jump shot inside the arch. Yet, my favorite thing about his game is his desire to play the best defense possible. He wants to become a strong defender and that is what makes him so deadly as a player. He doesn't take possessions off.

Israel leading his team to victory.
