The Idaho Statesman takes a look at PSU: http://www.idahostatejournal.com/members/isu-football-breaking-down-isu-s-schedule-portland-state/article_eb3e8dd4-40b5-11e5-81d2-970249548ee8.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Since nobody respects us, we can sneak up on almost everyone. ISU is breaking in a new QB (JC transfer with a frosh backup) and has been hit big time with the injury bug. Two pre-season all league guys out for the season already on D. Had to laugh at Kramer's post scrimmage video ripping his QBs new ones for "not smelling pretty". They also start with a D2 team Black Hills State so may need to adjust to the speed in game two while we are used to playing at Pac12 speed after WSU.

For me, the ISU game is a "must" game. We must win to have a shot at a playoff birth and it will be an important gauge of where we might end up. A loss puts us on track for that 2-9 season everyone predicts while a win sets us up for a winning season and maybe more.

I think I might have said this before on here, but the other thing I agree with coach Kramer on (besides his QBs sucking in that scrimmage) was his comment that a team needs great quarterback play to be near the top of this league. Historically, every team in the top 5 has had that. I'm not saying KM is a bad QB at all, it's just that after 3 years he has yet to be "great" b/c of turnovers. The EWU game last year was a good example. He comes in, plays great for a while and then throws two INTs including a pick six that ends our shot to win. I'm also not saying that AK will be great, but for now he has that potential so its worth a shot.

It will be interesting to see who steps up and becomes a playmaker this year. Hopefully, one will be a QB.

What we really lacked last year on the offensive side based on some player comments was leadership on the field. It made Camaraderie tough with the pouting and finger pointing that went on after tough plays. We won't know until he has been pressured in game situations but the initial buzz is that Kuresa seems to be an upbeat leader that the offense can rally around. If he can be a real positive leader on the field and combine that with the skills he showed in camp...I agree we might really surprise some people. Excited for Saturday...

"McDonagh will be pushed by junior Paris Penn and sophomore Josh Knight in the fall to see who will start."

Who's this Josh Knight kid? :-p

Bengals defensive stars dropping like flies...

ISU's game starts (or I guess started) at 3:05 PT.

It is amazing how a win can change the perspective of the next game. We aren't able to sneak up on Idaho State now. They know we just beat Wazzu. They may not know how we did it, but they know we won and now we have their total attention. They may poo-poo their own blowout over Black Hills State, but they are now saying, "we have Portland State coming in who just beat Washington State". If we had lost, I kind of doubt the buzz would be the same, other than the usual conference rival game. We need to keep playing well and not lose our focus. We are on the edge of a pretty dang good season here and a loss could dampen those expectations. Are we ready?

We all know that WSU isn't a great football team. However they are in the Pac-12 so everyone will not completely overlook PSU until they lose a game that they should win. So a surprise attack is off the table at this point.

If I were ISU I would look at the following about this PSU team:

1) They won their first game of the season on the road against an opponent they should have lost to. On the road......

2) They didn't turn the ball over or have many penalties. One of the penalties they did have, likely saved a touchdown.

3) They came out with a good second half game plan, made adjustments, didn't panic, and played with confidence. None of that could be said under Burton.

4) I think with Kuresa they have a proven leader. Physical ability is one thing. Having a QB that believes in himself, has maturity and thinks on his feet is something that PSU has not had since Cavanaugh. I believe some of it was from the top down, so this should not be seen as being critical of Kieran. We don't know what Burton was filling his head with.

Here's the recap of ISU game with Black Hills State. This will not be easy. Strange and bizarre things happen in Holt Arena.

They still have 85 scholarships and the amount their football staff gets paid is more than the entire athletics budget of PSU. Enjoy that win.

I've got to give this thread a bump as it is time to look forward. Sure we beat Wazzu, but this game is more important in the scheme of things. A conference rival, down two studs on defense, but the game is at their place, in a barn where the goalposts are hung from the roof. This is a game we need and the Bengals aren't going to roll over just because we beat a Pac-12 team. There are still people, not just in Portland, but in the conference who would love to knock us back in to "our place". A big win doesn't guarantee anything the next weekend. Just ask Montana.

The Idaho State Journal has this advance on tomorrow's game: http://www.idahostatejournal.com/sports/isu/isu-football-barnum-and-the-vikings-taking-on-underdog-role/article_492828e3-ed94-5f87-918b-5ca8a2fc7e2d.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Well, this is it. Tomorrow, we find out if we have been just lucky, or, maybe we are good. I'll be at the SFU @ WOU game, but should be able to catch the conclusion on the way home. Go Viks!

I hope we can get this game. It is going to be tough. Things happen in that arena in Pocatello that leaves one just shaking their head. Halloween happens there almost every Saturday. We can never let up.

I went to the Conference website and if you click watch Big Sky, it takes you to Eversport which says you can always watch game in the Big Sky for free.

Am I wrong in thinking we can watch it streaming online?

You can watch it. Currently Big Sky is one of the conferences that do not have their own network so live streaming is available in the U.S.

My conference buddies really don't like the Big Sky streaming. It used to have lots of "hiccups" as they put it. Myself, I still like listening to Tommy Hewitt on the radio, but I'm pretty much old school.
