ISU is a must-win game

A win at home gives us the 4 seed and a home game to open up the Big Sky tournament. It'd be the first time EWU has hosted a tournament game since 2006. Lose, and we are the 5th seed and on the road to play PSU, a team that's swept the Eags in the regular season. Get that win at home, and there's a good possibility we play the Bengals again to open up the tournament. I also think we match-up better with the Griz than Weber, so I am hoping UM can beat the Wildcats and get the #1 seed.

All that said, I really feel like depth is a serious issue and has been all season. The Eags only suit up 10 players and have some dudes banged up to boot. I said it early, but losing those three players early on in the season really hurt the Eags in terms of depth, especially considering how much we foul. It's hard to get too upset with how much Griffin fouls out when there is no backup at Center.

I think it's possible we could win a first round tournament game, but I don't see us being able to beat either Montana or Weber, they're too complete. I think we're still a year away, but this season could definitely be something to build upon if we can host and win a Big Sky tournament game.

We won't face PSU if we lose... they locked up the 3 seed and will get MSU granted the Cats beat NAU ( ). Winning just determines who hosts; ISU or us.

We "made our bed" by running off those three players. We should win this week if, a big if, we defend. Unfortunately I think we will be worse next year. Too many new guys and too little experience. It will be a couple of years. This was to be the year with everyone back and the coach and AD proclaiming a title was possible. The talent was there, execution, not so much. A win this week would be a glimmer of hope. The seniors should carry us.

SHOULD being the operative word. Hopefully Parker can redeem himself and drain those clutch 3s to save us.

Pretty sure we are going to play ISU in the tourney no matter what, whoever wins on Tuesday will host the playoff game. PSU locked up the 3 seed last night.

With as many ups and downs as this team has had to overcome, they still have a shot at hosting a playoff game this week, and then giving Weber or Montana a run for their money. Eastern had chances to beat Montana in both games, and if they can shoot well and play defense, can beat anyone in the big sky.

The best part about this team is they haven't played their best basketball yet, and even with that, they have a shot for 4th in the conference, best finish in 6 years. Things didn't go as planned after the nice start, but this team can still finish strong. Regardless what has happened in the past 2 months, now is a time to step up and support these guys.

Looking forward to two home wins against ISU this week!

I don't think a title with a new coaching staff and system this year was very realistic, if that's what the expectations were. We're also talking about a team that only won 10 games last season, so even if they had brought every player back, I don't think it was a talented enough team to challenge Montana or Weber. I thought we could contend for third place, and we're not far off from that. We lost multiple games in the last minute that had we won we could have been firmly in third. I think a combination of lack of depth and mediocre collective basketball IQ (see multiple "WTF" moments at the end of games) is what is hurting us. Still, there has been improvement. We have won more games this season despite a gruelling schedule and are positioned to get a home tournament game.

I think it's difficult to gauge what we're going to do next season. The talent does seem to be there with the incoming players, so I think there's potential for us to have a solid team. It's definitely going to be interesting watching the "United Nations of EWU" play next season. ;)

isu has to beat ewu twice this week. i cant see that happening. isu has to beat ewu to host the sat game, then beat ewu again to get to the semi. if i was beating i would put my money on ewu and psu to get to the semi.

I hope WSU loses bad to UM and then loses in their first game. What a bunch of poor sports and shitty fans.

Both Weber and UM have great teams this year, we'd be happy to be playing either as that would mean we were in the semi's.

I really think Eastern wins tuesday and then again on Saturday, but we have laid some first half eggs at home this year so you just never know, but I like our chances.

The UM/Weber game is going to be one of the biggest regular season big sky games in recent memory, can't wait to check on that one while watching the Eags tomorrow.

Going to place a bet in Vegas on todays matchup. EWU favored by 9.5 pts...anyone have thoughts?

Ok, so I was wrong. Eags played some inspired bball in that one. Clif C and Griffin killed it in that game.

If we can beat ISU again on Saturday, I'm not sure who i want us to play....UM or Weber. UM just shut down Weber tonight and won the regular season title. :tothehand:

Montana looked hot... I'd rather play Weber. We can beat either, but we have to put together a complete performance. Tonight was close. Go MSU! :D

Is it safe to say Chiverton is now persona-non grata? I heard he was involved in an "incident" during the Sac State game and won't get off the bench except sporadically for punishment.

Also, what's up with Hickert fouling out in 8 minutes of PT in the Portland State game? That's a John Randa moment... if you younger Eags can even figure that one out.

I talked to a guy claiming to be a college basketball scout at the Portland State game and he said Eastern should be jacked over the foreign kids they brought in. He called it a "high risk, high reward" recruiting method, but heard the kids were solid in their commitments... which is suppsoedly half the battle.

They better be damn good if they are going to replace Colimon, Ederaine, Griffin, etc. I am more than a little skeptical that anybody who has actually seen one of our foreign recruits play in person would be at a Portland State game. Of course, I am the cynic/skeptic on here!

Out of curiosity, anyone know what the "incident" was that seems to have put Chiverton in the dog house? I haven't been able to watch too many EWU games this year, but do know Chiverton was a hell of a talent! Wonder if he'll be out of the dog house for the tournament, or if he's pretty much done getting any significant play time...

Incident? Don't you mean injury?
