Looking at conference statistics, this is going to be a high-scoring game. ISU's low on rushing defense, we're low on passing defense. They're high on passing offense, we're high on rushing offense. A real test of our passing defense - ISU is liable to test that like no other team will. Their QB is good, and won't panic faced by a blitz. I don't think they can stop our rushing game. As I said, a high scoring game.

Hmmm. We lead the BSC in passing defense with only 187.4 yards per game. Interesting. Somehow I think ISU will get more yards than that, but hopefully not.

Already a rushing td today for Plinke. The more I see him play, the more I'm impressed with how athletic he is for his size. I have to believe that this kid will be all conference by the time he's done at PSU... not sure exactly what position he'll be playing though.

I wonder if Plinke has any throwing ability at all. If he does, I'd love to see him attempt a pass at some point. He's taken 20 snaps in the last two games and ran every one of them, everyone in the building knows he's going to run. Might be saving that play for when we beat Eastern Washington. :thumb:

Sounds like we owned the ground and had error free QB play to get a nice road win.
- Rushing. Looked like the DJ, Plinke, Rimirez show today. 64 rushes, 420 yards, 2 fumbles, 0 turnovers. I'll take it.
- Penalties. 12. Argh.
- Plays. 84. That's quite a few snaps by the offense today.
- Nice 3rd down defense. Only gave up 2 of 12.
- We made another field goal! We missed another two.
For those that were able to catch the game. Was thsi another instance of us not being able to deliver the knock out blow when up three scores?

The penalties are aggravating. Personal fouls. Illegal subs. Stupid stuff.
Here's a weird stat from the all time series. Our all time record with ISU is 15-23-1. Yet PSU leads the Overall combined score by 23 points. I wonder how many all time series can say that?

I've noticed that in recent wins over ISU, we do tend to give them a pretty good beat down.

Coach Burton has probably secured his job through his contract next year with the teams record this season. It would be pretty difficult for the higher ups to justify buying him out for his last year with the pressure on them fiscally. Having said that, I really don't believe that there has been much progress with this team over the past season. Can anyone point to a single area that has improved? The I watch the games, the less impressed I have become at how coach Burton manages the game. He seems to be a good recruiter, and that was probably how he landed this job, but otherwise I don't think he has the skill set to move this team in a direction that it needs to go.

I do agree with you about Burton's game management.
However, I will say this. After that loss to Southern Utah, this season was real close to going right into the side of the mountain. Credit to Burton for getting three straight (albeit versus some of the weaker teams in the BSC this season). I believe that if we're able to get a victory on Saturday, we'll have four straight conference wins (in the same season) for only the second time since moving up. Unfortunately that makes the sting of pissing away the Cal Poly game and the debacle at Southern Utah all the more worse...
