I think it's a little late imo, but tomato - tamatoe. The WAC's death will shut the window on any western FCS teams looking to go FBS.Super Hornet said:Green Cookie Monster said:It's official, the WAC is dead.
That's premature. It's likely to become true, but it's still premature.

I think it just suffered a massive heart attack and its dying on the way to the hospital. Paramedics are shocking it with defibrillators but its not responding. Will be dead before it hits the operating table.
All the WAC fans seem to think we are the solution to keeping the dying beast alive. I have to admit I was wrong this summer. Avoiding the WAC was a very wise decision.
Louisiana Tech has had on-going communications with Conference USA over the course of the last two years. We have sent them updated copies of our strategic plan for intercollegiate athletics and I have been speaking to the CUSA office on a regular basis. This past summer, President Reneau, Steve Davison and I traveled to Dallas to meet with Conference USA officials. During our meeting, we outlined the recent progress we have made in our athletic programs including our commitment to advancing and completing the Quest for Excellence facility project.
We have also developed a presentation highlighting our achievements and sent it to all of the Conference USA presidents and athletics directors. We have developed printed materials to market our programs, our geographic proximity to CUSA members, and our traditions, academic and athletic excellence. We have negotiated numerous game contracts for basketball and football with several members of CUSA including SMU, Houston and Southern Mississippi. We have also worked closely with CUSA membership in scheduling alliances and bowl negotiations.

i don't see how those lower level guy will survive financially, unless they get big money from the NCAA from a playoff system. but, i would guess the superconference will take as much of that money as possible.
how can San Jose State survive? not just for football, but for all sports? the Texas schools? they will draw 20000 for an intersquad scrimmage. the Spartans? probably not!
DrMike said:i run a high school basketball tournament out in Livermore, and I have a 'special' fan who i bring to and from all the games, and who hangs out and helps all weekend. guy loves his sports, especially Granada High School. We were talking about the bowls and the NCG....he says ' you know what BCS stands for'....'nope, Steve, what does it stand for?' 'Bullsh*t Crappy System'
so, there's a naming possibility for you!
Smart move by the Big West, of the teams that sought membership, only UH improves the conference and has something to bring to the table. The others would have just been extra mouths to feed.SJHornet said:So, the Big West is only taking Hawaii at this time. UCSD and CSUB both applied when Hawaii did, but they were rejected. Does CSUB get some interest from the Big Sky to become the Hornet's travel partner? I think its between them and Utah Valley. I think Seattle is a long shot. They probably get picked up by the WCC soon to make it a 10 team conference.

I am curious to know how the cash strapped public schools are going to pay for the flights to Hawaii for all their sports. I wonder if UH agreed to subsidize some of the travel to sweeten the pot.
