IWFL Playoffs

Amazing the difference a couple of weeks makes. All this time I figured that the Kansas City Tribe was the team taking away Sacramento's playoff berth. Not so. KC got hot and swiped the Midwest Division title from the Chicago Force. Chicago gets the wildcard after Sac's loss to LA.

The playoffs open 27 Jun with the following schedule:

Western Conference

#3 LA Amazons (8-0; 3-0 Tier I) @ #2 KC Tribe (7-1; 3-1)
#4 Chicago Force (6-2; 4-2) @ #1 Seattle Majestics (8-0; 6-0)

Eastern Conference

#3 Dallas Diamonds (8-0; 5-0) @ #2 Boston Militia (8-0; 5-0)
#4 Pittsburgh Passion (7-1; 7-1) @ #1 D.C. Divas (8-0; 8-0)

Don't ask me about that seeding inversion forcing Pacific Southwest Division champ LA to Midwest champ KC. Not sure how they split the tie between South Atlantic champ Dallas and North Atlantic champ Boston. The fact that Mid-Atlantic champ DC with all 8 wins in Tier I gave them the 1 seed while Pacific Northwest champ Seattle's 6 Tier I wins gave them the nod over LA and KC.

Three of the four IWFL Tier I playoff games went according to Hoyle on Saturday. The #2 seed Kansas City Tribe knocked off the LA Amazons 19-13. I guess the Tribe saw the adjustments Sac made that exposed LA's weaknesses. In the Eastern Conference, the Boston Militia beat the Dallas Diamonds 34-14 and the DC Divas took down the Pittsburgh Passion 27-17.

The one eyeopener was Western Conference #4 seed Chicago Force upsetting #1 seed Seattle Majestics 28-14. That's going to send shockwaves (no Portland pun intended) through the league going into the Conference Championships two weeks from now. There are now no West Coast teams remaining in the playoffs. ECBers must LOVE that.

On July 11, Chicago will invade Kansas City and DC will train up to Boston.

This past weekend, the last tickets were punched for the IWFL World Championship Game. The Kansas City Tribe blew out the Chicago Force 40-16, and the DC Divas upset the Boston Militia 27-21. The Tribe will meet the Divas 25 July at Round Rock ISD Stadium in Round Rock, TX for the title. The same day, the Tier II regional champs Wisconsin Warriors and Montreal Blitz will play for the North American Championship.
