With Deion Sanders calling the shots at Jackson State University, the beleaguered SWAC is getting nationally televised football games on a weekly basis this Spring. While the FCS ranks DESERVE more publicity, I think it hurts that the quality of the teams is so poor.
I tried to get some friends to watch the game yesterday and they came away thinking that FCS is pretty much equivalent to a really good high school team. I tried to tell them if they watched a BSC or MVFC game they would see a totally different product. Yesterday was the equivalent of CBS showing a meaningless A-SUN game in primetime, rather than the Iron Bowl because a celebrity just took the job at Bowling Green or something lol....
I mean, good for the HBCUs, but this push is all about Deion personally so he can get the job at FSU and bring his son with him to start (shocker), and not about the football being played at this level. I think the attention is hurting more than it is helping.
