Jacksonville State it is...

... Holy hell, McNeese brought their trash game and didn't even compete in this one.

This isn't a great match for us as they run an offense that looks pretty similar to Sam Houston State, except they tend to roll with a power back rather than using much speed. Their D is big and physical, and they like to man up on the receivers. McNeese's receivers looked totally outmatched all night... but then again, I don't think they were any good to begin with.

Jacksonville State runs a lot of different blitz packages and they really like to pressure. I suspect we'll want to implement a lot of different draws and expect Vernon to be running a bit.

Look plenty fast to me at QB, WR and DB. Very athletic and like contact. QB is wide eyed freshman and made some mistakes in second half. He can beat you with his feet. JSU D line very aggressive and can penetrate. O-line play critical for EWU success next week. Play D like we did today with pressure off the edge to disrupt, break down and tackle and EWU wins the shootout. Discipline against read option starting to sound like a broken record, but D showed well today against good run team with few breakdowns. JSU good athletes, sort of SHSU lite on offense. Should be a fun game, hope Roos Field is rocking with 10,000 plus.

Want to know how to beat SHSU, watch SELA tape. In a close one right now 23-24 SELA

Agreed. If you look back at their season, they either won huge or got blown out. Honestly the matchups don't concern me much at this point. We're peaking, and are a huge threat to any team in the country. Gotta love the playoffs.

:+1: Five.

A lot of our mojo will depend on staying healthy. We had a lot of guys down today, but I don't know of anyone that would potentially miss next week.

Forte and Brown should have some great opportunities next week, as Jacksonville State has really struggled at stopping anyone on the ground this year. When they played Garropolo and Eastern Illinois, it was the ground game that blew the game open.

You have a good team, congratulations on the win today. However, you wont reach your potential if your players don't stop the cheap shots. Could have been huge if the game was closer. You also need to improve your security. You have some real idiots that sit behind the visiting fans, even started a scuffle. Really.

Is this for real? Cheap shots? Hey answer me this, who takes timeouts down by 24 points with less than 2 minutes to play?

Cheap shots? Interesting. You mean like the guy who gouged Kupp in the eye on one of his TD's? GTFO with this BS.

No, I was thinking of the player who was ejected for targeting. Sorry, I wasn't more clear.

I didn't think it was a cheap shot at all. I thought it was a player trying to make a play. Ultimately the refs made the correct call, because you can't leave your feet like that, but it wasn't like it was a late hit or something where he was trying to hurt the guy. He also wasn't leading with the crown of his helmet. It's a tough one, because you are trying to make a play on the ball, but I didn't think it was something deliberate. If you want to see the definition of a cheap shot, check out WSU safety Deon Buchannon's hit on Greg Herd from last season. This wasn't close to that.

The layout on the receiver was one of those plays I'll defend til I'm blue in the face. If you want to call a penalty for leaping into a player, than make that it's own penalty. But the penalty is "targeting" and that's not what happened. He led with his shoulder and hit the receiver in the chest. That's a clean hit in my book. We've gotten to the point where any hard hit to a receiver draws a flag, and that's unfortunate.

For the most part I would say it was a pretty clean game on both sides of the ball. There was a late hit out of bounds on Hamlin, but that was close/questionable. And the targeting was just a football play that was a little high, but neither of those plays I would consider dirty. There was also a late hit out of bounds on an SDSU guy that wasn't malicious, it's football and stuff happens when guys are flying around.

#15 from your team lost his cool after giving up a td to Cupp and should have been flagged. On the next play he did get flagged for a scuffle with off setting penalties.

As far as some roge fan behind the visiting bleacher getting in a scuffle, I have no idea about that but is in no way typical of Roos Field behavior. I have been a season ticket holder for 8 years and regular attendee for 20 and I have never witnessed a fight at Roos Field

The penalty was technically targeting. The player launched himself and hit the other players head/neck area. However, that type of targeting is very iffy, was just a player being physical, and is far more common among secondaries. Our player was just trying to make the tackle and disrupt the catch at the same time. I wouldn't call a player making a hit when the ball is active necessarily "cheap".

Csgame,
I normally doesn't get involved in this kind of talking about teams and spectators. This goes on at every
football games, etc. You lost to an Outstanding team, the best team won the game. It was so damn cold, I listened to 2nd half in my truck and got my toes defrosted ;). I didn't know one of our Players got ejected, what was his number of the Player? Now I must tell you and your fans, "You have a GREAT Team, will be back next year. About the fans behind your bench being loud, silly, if they were idiots as you called them, you should have gotten the Security Staff/Police Personnel, and they would have taken care of the Problem. I did see a few personnel coming out of the game, that couldn't see their Cellular Phone #, one young man who was removed from the game by University Police Personnel, because he was so drunk, he couldn't walk by himself, some female came out with him, and he left all his lunch/dinner between two cars in the lot on the ground    . I just shook my head and smile. I don't drink, so I cannot say much about personnel that want to drink, but they can use common sense. I will be the first to apologize for anyone that misrepresented our University, Coaches and Players in the wrong way.  . I was an employee 21 years for the University, in University Police Department, I know we are not perfect. I hope you did enjoy two exciting Teams on the field. Take care. Vic Wallace

To All,
ESPN3 again this week against Jacksonville state. I was so damn impressed with our team, the played an "Outstanding Game". I must honestly say I was a little worried when we got the ball and twice we wen 3 and out.  , I knew then that we had a team that came to play. At least the weather will be in the 30's next week, with maybe some snow or rain and snow mixed, so we will be able to stand the weather. I am heading to "Big R" today, and get some equipment for this cold weather, like foot warmers, etc. Even with foot warmers my toes were very cold, along with my fingers. I had so much layers on, it was hell trying to move, especially in the rest room. (so much that portion ;). It was funny, one gentleman came into the rest room looking behind him, he said he accidentally went into the ladies rest room, some lady wanted to kick his butt. ;) ;) ;). I was worried with the passes our QB was going to throw, however, it seemed like the cold weather didn't bother either QBs. I missed who was ejected from the game. My daughter asked me I couldn't give her an answer, I listened from my Truck the entire 2nd half. I was till happy to see the "Die Hard Fans" that sat, stand in that cold weather, rooting our team on to "Victory" 6,129 according to the media     :thumb: :thumb: Go Eagles!!!!! Reminds me of the Griz fan who posted that our coaches were using salty language all game and just wanted to "let us know". Loser limp city.
