Weber State QB Jake Constantine, WSU's starter for most of the last 2 seasons, has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Constantine, who started his career at Boise State, threw for 4,428 yards, 33 TDs, 22 INTs last 2 years on #BigSkyFB title teams. https://t.co/1QhtlEvM8H

Maybe offering a 2nd QB makes more sense now. I'll be the first to say, losing Constantine wouldn't make me cry, but as of right now I don't think there's anyone in the program that's any better. Wonder if this is just a "test the waters" thing for him.

Part of the game, players move on sometimes.

His motivation might be for an advanced degree, a bigger program, or just a different offense. I didn't think he was the cause of all the offensive woes, but he was not going to be a top notch QB either. Wish him the best regardless.

I wish Jake the best in life. Not a chance he lands somewhere “bigger.” One more year, and basically a shot up body, and extremely immobile. He might just be calling it quits. I appreciate all he did for our program, and he took us further than any other wildcat to go from under center. But the stirring was pretty clear. We need a mobile QB that can help the offense, and athleticism to take us to the next step. NC is in the sights.

Forget "testing the waters", he's definitely gone. Best of luck to him. This will make for a very interesting offseason. Stay tuned!

Pretty sure the job will be Jenks in spring ball with lots of reps for Weisser.

Probable depth chart:
Kaden Jenks
Kylan Weisser
Teryn Berry
(Breck Jackson) I think leaving on a mission.

Potential Incoming QBs:
Bronson Barron 2018 class

Wowww didn’t see that coming. (Granted, i don’t know the kid.)

Looks like we’ll get what everyone (besides Olds) wants. A new look at QB. I hope we can get a transfer to compete with Jenks. I don’t think Jenks sees the field as well as Jake does and he’s a bit robotic with mechanics.

Signing day is going to be fascinating.

Everybody got their wish. You were able to run Jake off.

This much I can tell you; if our O line improves, any of our QBs can be successful. If the O line doesn't get better, No QB will look any better than Jake did. An improved O line will make the OC look smarter, the QBs look better, and the RBs look better. An improved O line will even make the D look better, by keeping them off the field. There is a reason that we have gone after two or three JC O linemen. :coffee:

Yes I’m sure Jake transferred because of the 10 active posters on the team message board.

Give it a rest Olds!!! Do you actually watch the games??? Jake is a great young man but he was average to below as a starting QB. Thinking back do you Olds truly believe Constantine was anywhere close to Cantwell, Hoke, or Higgins as far as starting QB’s go??? If you say yes then you don’t watch the Cats consistently. He was the weak link in our offense, but yes a more consistent offensive line would help anyone. I wish him well, but he wasn’t this dynamic QB you thought he was!! I’m not sure any QB on the roster is better and that scares me, but Jake wasn’t very good either. Stop being a crybaby Olds just because other see what you didn’t!!

Seriously.

I wasn't rooting for this but it's certainly one of three areas that I think needs improvement in to take another step. Any chance the coaching staff knows something that was the writing on the wall for Constantine?

Yeah. I don't think any of us will really know why he is going. It could be fully academic for all we know. He might be looking to get into a post grad program as soon as possible. BTW, I never tried to defend him as our QB, other than to say that he won the position, and was therefor the best we had. If someone steps up who is better, then great. I only care about getting the program, as a whole, better. :coffee:

Wish him the best. Wonder who will be the starter. I have to think they have someone lined up other than Jenks. It will be gunner following the offseason moves than it is to follow Wildcats basketball.

You can do a little reading between the lines here, on the situation.

Like most of us, Jay knows the passing game was not good enough so he doesn't seem overly concerned with losing Constantine and Shramm. He also knows they have to get the ball in the hands of their WRs and TEs more. Have to utilize the talent there much more than they have been. Also sounds like Kevin Smith returning is still a possibility.

He's put Weber pofile pics back up on Twitter and added "Weber St QB". Guessing he hasn't received a lot of interest out there (no surprise), so maybe he's having second thoughts. But I get the feeling that he burned his bridges here so I'd be surprised if Hill lets him back on the team if he wants to return.
