I just heard that Jamal Smith a WR/DB from the Utah Utes transferred to Sac State. Anyone see him there? He's tall, athletic WR who went to H.S. with Sam McCowan and Henry Fernandez. He's a good athlete and a good kid, I hope he does well with you guys.

TopRank, welcome to the board my friend. Post often! If Jamal Smith has really been added, I think that's huge, especially if we can get him in the safety role (Schrader replacement).

Looks like he had offers from two Pac-12 schools as a three-star WR...

He will have three years of eligibility remaining after being converted to a DB at Utah. http://utahutes.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/smith_jamal00.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

From Salt Lake Trib... Looks like he's hoping to play WR, man we're loaded up...

Jamal Smith, a sophomore corner out of Oxnard H.S. in California, is transferring to Sacramento State. Smith was buried on Utah's depth chart and made the decision to transfer because he wanted to play this season. He'll be able to return to his old position at receiver and play this year at Sacramento State.

Whittingham said he left on good standing.

Curious how this works. Is Sac State allowed to actively recruit this player while he's at Utah? Or does the player have to inform his school that he's actively seeking to transfer and he contacts the other schools himself?

No they are not. Usually the player has to get permission from their current program to seek a transfer. In cases like this where someone gets burried on the depth chart, coaches won't think twice about granting them their freedom.

Saw that one of the Walk On Freshman WR is no longer on the roster am assuming they will add J Smith in his spot. Anyone know how camp is going in regards to injuries, depth chart, etc...?

Haven't heard much from the transfers TE/WR Knowles and WR Howard. I see that true freshman Carter is doing well based on his play in the scrimmage. May make the squad this year as a 4/5th WR and return guy.

How about Redshirt Freshman Broadnax? He looked good during spring. I know true freshman Cox was sent home because of Strep throat or something and will be back after camp, definate redshirt.

Smith sounds like a solid pick up. With all the talent at WR, I hope there's enough love to go around to keep them all happy.

Anyone know the status of this young man? Didn't see him on the roster or Media Guide, but that could be because he was such a late addition.
