Jan 8: Weber @ PSU

It was a great game! Glad I could watch it even though bigskytv sucks lol!

As for here on out I have no doubt PSU wont be losing many games. As for VikThunder's comment about thinking the Viks wouldn't go undefeated...well, considering it has never been done in the 16 game format in the Big Sky yes, that is asking a bit much.

PSU at WSU game isn't til Valentine's Day.

As for who I think will host I think PSU would need to lose 4 games for it to be WSU. Before the conference started my guess was if PSU does better than 12-4 that might make it difficult for WSU to host.

But EWU/ISU are still lookin good. Only Sac is out of it. Too many good teams this year.

Even on the Sagarin you can see our conf is ranked 19th, was 18th most of the season til recently. Last few years the Big Sky has been more like 21st-23rd of the 32 conferneces.

Yikes, that was brutal to watch in the 2nd half. Bullinger was amazing. He was sure in the zone. Hats off to Weber State. Good game plan, and they came in and executed.

I was really surprised at the lack of movement away from the ball by our offense in the 2nd half. Way, way, way too much isolation and jacking up three point shots rather than playing as a team and working it for the best percentage shot available. Man, I really thought we'd get going when we had that five point swing when by Murray with the hoop (and one), plus the technical foul on WSU. Then we proceeded to turn the ball over two times in a row and kill momentum.

Some random comments....

What in the hell happened to Kyle Coston's hair? I mean really, what happened? That better be a lost bet or he was the first guy to fall asleep at a party.

How bad is Jones' hand? That thumb was taped up pretty good.

Flat screen in the lobby to see the game if you need to hit concessions or the restroom. Neat!

Is it me or did JD seem to be out of the game for a while late in the 2nd half?

This was a frustrating loss, but probably a good loss in the long run, as it's better to lose early than to lose late in the conference season. Spout off in the papers and confuse confidence with arrogance, and you get kicked in the junk like we did last night. I hope we learned a lesson.

Marty, I didn't see the jersey last night. Was it in the house?

My thoughts on a frustrating night:

Nelson was awful. He didn't move without the ball and just lingered on the perimeter for all but about two plays. It took way too long for Bone to take him out.

Coston's hair is a mystery. What was that?

Why didn't Waters and Murray play more? They were showing energy and toughness while they were in, and I would've played them as much as possible.

Mara and Thomas also brought energy and grit, so I give them credit.

Nice to see Oden in the building. Sorry we couldn't give him a better performance.

I remain confident that PSU will host the conference tourny.

I knew the Weber St game was going to be a tough one, but I thought the Viks would prevail, I was wrong. To put a positive spin on this, I hope it will be like the Eastern loss last year and Portland State rebounds from this game and becomes a better team. Credit should go to Weber, they really played well and have a nice team, and they exposed two major weak areas for PSU. One, the frontline is small and as a group haven't been productive enough and two, the Viks rely too much on the 3-point shot. Here is a few of the articles on the game:

Nope. :-(

I guess I should have. :-(

Oh, and I forgot to mention that block by Weber State (I think it was Davis) on Wright's three point attempt in the second half. Wow. That ball damn near hurt somebody about ten rows up in the stands. :-|

Last season after PSU lost to Weber they then won 14 straight games...

Hope to meet a 3rd time this season...may the shortest coach win! lol

Someone over on O-live said Greg Oden was at the game, can anyone comfirm that? I thought I saw a glance of tall guy walking into the gym, I was hoping it was a recruit, so maybe that was GO. If it was, great to have his support in watching a Viking game, too bad it was a defeat.

Yeah, I mentioned it in my post in this thread. He was there, arriving late and leaving early, wearing a gray hoodie. He was sitting on the baseline near the PSU bench.

As to Dominguez being out late, it had to do with the other two guards shooting the ball well. He eventually decided to leave them both in and take out Coston.
-In my opinion, leaving Nelson in was the right move. At least he has the ability to score on his own. Coston is only a spot up shooter.
-If Jones can't produce inside, PSU is in a lot of trouble.

I figured that was the case with JD. Waters was en fuego in the second half.

Anyone catch that interview with Bone on 95.5 the other day. Nelson's game came up. Bone said his offensive game is suffering because he's been told to put more effort into rebounding and defense. Well, at least that's what I took out of it.
