Jay Hill getting lots of love

USU is going to announce Gary Andersen as their new head coach. Jay Hill is safe for now... Unless Gary would want Jay as a DC... You think the DC at USU pays as well as HC at Weber?

John L. is available once again, so maybe the Aggies can refocus their search. ;-)

Ugh that website is almost as obnoxious to look at as EWarsh's red turf.

how is it possible hill is still at wsu? back to back titles coaching a school that barely had more than 2 titles in its near 60 yr history. imagine the opportunities available. how have we kept him this long? it is not an easy task to do what hill has done. no one, not even mac did what hill did/has done.

i should say some credit needs to go to mac. he did everything to build utah from scratch then handed off to urban and kyle. he really built weber up even though sears was bad. it was the perfect spot to take over for a good coach. but still making weber win in football is hard to believe possible. i could have never imagined any coach getting us 2 banners ... in the same decade let alone 2 yrs. :yikes:

Hill maks me think of Mike MacIntyre, (colorado head coach) was a great coach at san jose state and made them win 10 games...in the same season not 3-5 yrs worth. they finished in the top 25 for the first time in school history. that would be like the sac state going 30-0 in hoops. he even took the buffs, a program that had been dead for many years to the pac12 champ game in his 4th yr. that is still a great feat considing how bad that program was.

"On January 10, 2017, MacIntyre signed a 5-year, $16.25 million contract with Colorado that will see him under contract with the Buffaloes through the 2021 season.[39]

On November 18, 2018, MacIntyre was fired as the head coach after a six game losing streak.[40] "

WSU won't be able to keep Hill too much longer... but he's still here because we gave him a chance, and we respect and supported him and his family while Sarah battled her cancer, letting him know her well being came first. I'm hoping that Hill sticks around another season or two and is really able to get the big contract from a P5 team instead of a smaller jump this year to a USU type offer. Regardless of when, it's been an amazing journey and this Wildcat is extremely grateful for Jay turning the program around and making WSU a national power.

For years Eagle fans were in fear of losing Beau Baldwin who did eventually go the Cal as the offensive coordinator. He is now struggling and fans are getting restless. I say that because it is a HUGE leap from FCS to FBS, both in the challenge to be successful and salaries.

Herosports had a good podcast that talked about this issue this week. They stated that a P5 school won't take a FCS coach as a head coach even if they really like him. They speculated that this is mostly due to backlash from the boosters. I think that is why we see moves like the JMU coach taking the E. Carolina job. To me, that seems like an equal if not slight worse job to JMU, but going to a G5 school is also a necessary step to getting to a P5 head coaching position. I'm sure it pays better also.

It's been very quite out of Logan this week. My gut tells me they are waiting for Weber to be done with its playoff run and using a national search as a convenient excuse. Honestly, they would be stupid not to hire him. I don't want to see coach Hill go, but I do want to see him be successful.

Bobby Hauk (sp?) is a perfect example of a successful FCS coach going to an G5 and not getting "it" done. At Montana during the 2000s his teams were unmatched and consistent champions. UNLV was a bit different for him.

Likewise...so thankful to Jay Hill for all the effort he's put forth to elevate Wildcat football...he is a classy, smart coach that does deserves success wherever he is at in the future. CONGRATS & THANKS to the Weber State coaching staff, players, & support crew for an exciting and entertaining season & "the future is bright" per Hill interview at the post game table. This fan is looking forward to next season with whatever changes take place.

ABC4 & KSL TV sports news reported tonight that USU has "shut down the interview process" now & all signs point to Gary Anderson being named to return as head football coach. :twocents:

If there's any good news tonight it is that donors have pretty much forced USU to hire GA. Looking like we'll have coach for at least another year. Jay, get to work on improving your offense, even if that means a new OC.

Definitely hoping we dodged a bullet, and that Coach Hill will be retained for another season. Reports are suggesting that former Aggie HC Gary Andersen is returning to Logan. Nothing official from USU though.

Gary Andersen has officially been announced as USU’s coach. It appears likely Hill will be in Ogden next season

Indeed good news, with 16 Seniors and most of them big contributors, Hill's got a lot of work to do and a little magic to conjure up to reload and put on another show next season. Can't wait-- yeah-- for Weber State Football!
