Former Portland State standout, Jeb Ivey, sets Guinness World Record for consecutive games with a 3-pointer

In early March, The Portland Trail Blazers and guard Wesley Matthews helped put an end to Atlanta Hawks guard Kyle Korver's NBA-record streak of consecutive games with a three-pointer made at 127.

The impressive streak was celebrated across the league, but Korver's run of 127 straight games with a made three is still well short of the world record of 177 games.

That honor belongs to former Portland State guard Jeb Ivey who made at least one three in 177 straight games playing for various European clubs from 2010 to 2013. Ivey, who played for the Vikings from 2001 to 2003, has played professionally in Europe for over a decade and now stands alone in the Guiness Book of World Records.

Here's the full release from Portland State:

Jeb Ivey's outstanding shooting ability earned him a basketball scholarship to Portland State more than a decade ago. Some 11 years after he finished his Viking career, Ivey's shooting has now earned him a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Ivey, who will begin his 12th professional season in Europe this fall, has established a new record for consecutive games played making at least one three-point field goal. Ivey made three-pointers in 177 consecutive professional games in a streak that started while playing for KTP in Finland in 2010 and concluded in France in 2013 while playing for Aix-Maurienne.

When Ivey set the Finnish record of 83 a few years back, his wife, Whitney (the former Whitney Olsen, who also played softball at Portland State) began researching professional leagues to see where her husband's record ranked. Soon it was determined no professional player on record had ever made three-pointers in more consecutive games (The Atlanta Hawks' Kyle Korver recently had an NBA-record streak of 127 games). Ivey's streak was submitted to the Guinness Book and it was verified.

The streak is remarkable on many levels, not the least of which is pure shooting ability. Ivey also had to avoid the inevitable "off-shooting night" and injuries. He takes pride in the fact that he has never missed in a game in his basketball career due to injury.

Ivey, a 6-2 guard from San Jose, CA, played two seasons at Portland State (2001-03). He was the Vikings top shooter those two seasons. As a junior Ivey averaged 12.5 points, 3.1 assists, made 66 three-pointers and shot a school-record .980 from the free throw line. As a senior, Ivey led the team with 15.0 scoring average, making a team-leading 70 three-pointers.

After graduation, Ivey's basketball career continued in Europe. He played four seasons in Iceland, twice winning league championships, followed by two seasons in Germany, four seasons in Finland (winning two more championships), and will begin his second year in France this fall.

Jeb and Whitney, who began dating at Portland State, have now been married for nine years and have two sons, Jaxon (4) and Bayland (16 months). The entire family lives in Europe during the season and Jeb states that Jaxon is already multilingual.

Ivey averaged 15.1 points this past season, shooting 40% from three-point range for Aix-Maurienne in the Pro B League. He will return to France next week and will play for Denain Voltaire this season.

Ivey was recently interviewed by Art Edwards and Brian Warner of the KGW TV in Portland about earning a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. That story is scheduled to air on the Monday, July 28, evening news between 6:30-7 p.m.
