Jeff Tingey relieved of duties.

I think this is a good thing for the future of ISU Athletics.
Tingey came across as an absolute snob to the everyday “regular Joe” Bengal fan, at lest in my experiences.
He could never muster a simple “hello” or “thanks for coming out to support the Bengals” at any women’s or men’s basketball games or football games or Bengalfest, Night at the Chukars, or anywhere else for that matter.
That was, of course, unless you were in his immediate circle. It was pretty obvious the pedigree that was necessary for this guy to even acknowledge you.
Find an AD that can help sell the products of the ISU Bengals and actually isn’t afraid to talk to the fans and the everyday “small bucks” donors.
Paul Bubb had his problems and created many. No debate on that. But, as AD at least he’d meet and greet fans, donors, and the students. Just sayin’.

Although I agree that the lack of funds and team records are the core reasons to relieve Tingey, I believe the real issue is that ISU keeps losing ground to Ricks... um, BYU Idaho as far as students attending classes. The president has seen what the impact of a recognizable athletic program can do for enrollment. For that purpose, ISU's traditional athletic programs are not cutting it. Considering the fact that BYU Idaho has no athletic programs locally, ISU would be stronger if football & basketball programs were more competitive. Couple that with an organized fundraising campaign or two, not only will ISU be putting butts in the seats but enrollment would increase. This is probably over simplified though. Just my thoughts and my two cents worth.

….when Ricks became BYU-Idaho and was still 2 year....I used to wonder why we did not talk to them about us furnishing buses and offer to bring down any of their students that would like to come to football and/or basketball games....I thought it could lead to some transferring at the end of their 2 years there....now that they are 4 year it might be a little tougher ...but they still might be interested since they don't offer games for their students to watch and attend...

….And I wonder why we don't extend that offer to the new 2 year college in I F ...College of Eastern Idaho with the same idea in mind....let those students enjoy "the college sports experience" and maybe more would decide to come to ISU after their 2 years there....what's it hurt to try..... :twocents: ..

Why romance the C of EI when ISU already has an essentially forgotten student body at ISU’s University Place Campus?
When was the last time, any effort was made to reach out to alumni, students, and Bengal fans in Idaho Falls? When is the next time? Do the boosters and the alumni organizations ever talk to one another? In Poky maybe?
Do the coaches ever visit to do a meet and greet - anywhere - to try and generate interest?
The marketing is and has been seemingly non-existent. Hopefully, the new AD changes that for the better.

....Great points "Not.....alum".....sure hope the new ideas the ISU athletic department will be looking at taking would include suggestions such as yours.....

....Might as well talk to CSI....at least about bussing some of their students down for ISU football games.....unless they would prefer going "toward the west".....

New article in the ISJ just stamped it, JT isn't returning. It also goes on to say the Interim AD will NOT be be a possible candidate for the AD job, so they're definitely going outside the circle.

This will be interesting to follow.

Football has been heading up to I.F. at least once a year that I know of on National Signing Day, for example on a regular basis to talk with the I.F. Alumni.

Marketing and advertising has been lacking to be sure. new, bold ideas are needed.

As they probably should. New ideas, fresh set of eyes to look at the issues surrounding ISU athletics. Not a bad approach in my opinion.

YES! The departmental inbreeding needs to stop.

New blood!

Don't stop there.

I'm not sure this would work or not but love that it is a creative idea. I think it would be worth exploring for ISU and the students up the valley.

A few years back, I believe during Joe's tenure as head basketball coach, a group of BYU-I students came for every home game. They were awesome fans, very vocal. There was talk then about trying to build on these guys, but nothing ever came of it.

It seems like a great idea to get some BYU-I students involved as fans, but it might be something that the student governments of each school can work on. Could BYU-I students be offered discounted admission with their school identification cards?

College of Eastern Idaho is unique in that it's a community college with a student body scattered about the immediate area. Some of those students who are attending CEI will very much be attending ISU someday. I can see a "CEI Night" being smart - couple it with an ISU event which hosts CEI students for tours, orientation. Offer CEI students and faculty free admission, or at least half off.

I absolutely love everything detailed in sasquatch's post. I think a "CEI Night" and a few "BYU-I Nights" would be immensely beneficial, as would outreach to our IF campus. I also think discounted tickets for BYU-I students would be solid gold. Creating genuine tie-ins with CEI/CSI/BYU-I plus the IF Campus would be a great long-term idea that would really work.

Also an out of town parent of a player, I couldn’t agree more w/ISUdad.

Honestly, ISU Athletics was JT’s little empire. It wasn’t about the student/athletes, it was about him. Raising the APR was his holy grail and credit for it was (in his view) “All HIS”. (Many made that happen, including the athletes). Further to that point- It needed to “improve”, it didn’t need to be #1 in all FCS. How about not losing the mission of winning-games while chasing a personal quest to build your resume’? APR matters, but so does winning!

And when you pay an individual 4 times the local household income? Yeah, high expectations are certainly reasonable.

High APR is great, but winning fills the stands, and winning draws donor $, and round & round we go.

Also, treating your local donors like valued assets rather than playing foxhole politics to the point they ask for your head? Uhhh? Don’t shoot the messenger here, but when F.A.T. called for his head, they had reasonable cause, just poor execution.

Everyone is an AD’s customer. Player, parent, fan, booster, local business, coach, teacher, employee, , & boss. But when you have informal power (via nepotism), you lose the driving need to care for your flock. He thought he was above needing/earning local support.
WRONG.

If you don’t like that part of the job, don’t take it on. And if you produce winners, and treat others as equals (or better)? You’ll keep that job a LONG time.

But in this case, (when Satterlee showed up) they obviously lined-up to spill the beans on why he must go, and Saterlee is fair (but he’s a smart guy too). And there is a reason JT was hawkin’ on the NDakota AD job, (he knew he earned da’ boot).

“There’s a new sheriff in town, and his name’s Reggie Hammond!” (Quote from movie “48hrs”)

Go get ‘em Saterlee!
