Jerry Glanville Poll

My feeling is that this is not Jerry's team. This is the team he inherited from Tim Walsh. These players were recruited for an entirely different system. I was not expecting miracles but at least a glimpse of what the future can hold if we can stay the course.

Was this loss mostly Glanville's, Davis', or the players' fault? I was unable to listen, but it looks like the offense gave it away.

I've been unimpressed. I didn't expect PSU to dominate the Big Sky, but they've lost a few games that are unacceptable. As much as they're paying him, they need to beat UCD and NAU at home and they need to beat a bad ISU team on the road.

I said embarrassed, mostly because of the flak we get from fans of other teams.

I vote "none of the above." I have a different perspective on this whole shebang.

I believe, if PSU's options amounted to "just another successful but non-descript coach," there wouldn't be a program. To me, it was Glanville or nothing.

I recall some of the Glanville defenses putting emphasis on show more than efficiency. That's the past, so I'm hoping that his mindset has improved on this... and, really, I can't blame the defense for Saturday's mishaps.

For that matter, when Mouse was first coach here, how many times did PSU go to the playoffs? How many times did PSU get thrashed by Idaho? Mind you, the Mouse offense HAS adjusted to reality since then IMO; I know Mouse can adjust. Saturday was two fumbles returned for touchdowns that obviously demoralized PSU. (Background: I saw last year in Pullman, in the space of 15 game time minutes, the Oregon offense dissolve from potential national power to dog meat because Jonathan Stewart had three fumbles.)

I think PSU had no choice. If the program has to perennially make the playoffs to sell tickets (and I believe the NCAA gets a cut of playoff tickets), then PSU football never improves from circling around the drain while the faucet is running. Selling tickets is the first job in Portland. PSU isn't averaging 10K, but what they're drawing is still a dramatic improvement over recent history. If things improve on the field, there's a larger base from which to expand upon. If things fall apart, then those things were going where they appeared to be headed anyway. I suspect, whatever happens, this was a risk worth taking.

We are not the only team with growing pains under a new coach. Look at Minnesota, a team that went to bowl games since 2001.

They too have a new coaching staff and was defeated by South Dakota State. Granted the Bison are the best of the FCS, But even then you would expect the depth of an FBS team to outlast an FCS team.

PSU has potential. remember we had have similar experiences in the past where we had an outstanding season followed bad ones. It happens to ecvery team, especially when a new coach comes in.

I don't want to badmouth Tim Walsh, but it would have been nicer f he had announced he had accepted the job at Army, but would delay his departure long enough to ensure a seamless transition. Instead we had chaos and confusion as to what was going to happen. there were players demanding one person, or they would walk, and rampant speculation from everybody else as to who would be hired.

Now I have not been back to the Vikings forum in the Oregonian, but I bet OBSF is having a field day over this. Lets not fall into that trap here. Let's keep an open mind and look to the future.

I am still confident about the future, but the sacks returning this late in the year was bothersome. Didn't we know that they'd blitz to protect their injured and young secondary? The sloppy play Sat and against NAU is worrisome as well. I didn't like the sound of the radio call in the second half. Despite this, a huge change of systems is a bet on the future and we won't know the outcome until next year. I am optimistic still. Glanville was a good bet for PSU but we always knew it would be a gamble.

Even if I can make some allowances for switching systems and having Walsh's recruits, we've still lost 3 games this year that we should have won, in my opinion - UC Davis, NAU, and ISU. So, I vote disappointed.

I'm disappointed. Jim Harbaugh at Stanford had a more difficult job but has worked wonders. I was hoping for more. I am really concerned about the sloppy play - poor tackling, mental errors and all the sacks. Signs of coaching issues. We should never be losing to Idaho State and UC Davis. Idaho State was in a tougher position than we were and were also breaking in a new coach.

When you bring guys than guys you have available to protect you need to be able to hit hot routes and hold onto the ball! So frustrating listening to the game.

After watching the D against Weber State I don't know why I leave the stadium with a big grin after a loss.
Jerry is entertaining as all get out.
You're going to love this!
But we're going to love it a lot more when the D gets going.

Yep. We're playing a horrible season, but boy! It's so much fun. I am already so excited about the next season. I just hope for at least two convincing wins in the current one (one victory should be guaranteed).

Let's not be angry. PSU has been by far the most entertaining team in the conference. J.G. has been doing a great job increasing funding and attention; Mouse's performance as a O.C. has been nothing less than awesome. Next season, we will have had more practice, better recruiting, more awareness, and more realistic expectations.

The Gartner hype cycle: fits in here quite well I think:

JG = Bust!

It seems pash never has anything nice to say about Jerry /users/31/07/37/smiles/246125.gif . Methinks he might be OBSF trying to hide his identity /users/31/07/37/smiles/emotico2.gif

People were calling Carson Palmer a bust for 3 years. Frank Beamer didn't win for years at Virginia Tech. Greg Schiano didn't win immediately at Rutgers. PSU is not Notre Dame. There is no reason a coach deserves a one year window to win in any circumstance. I think Glanville deserves at least a three year window, and if he doesn't get it, the replacement is going to be much worse. You think you can get a quality guy to coach PSU with a one year window to win? That would be severely flawed logic.

First off Pash is more intelligent that OBSF. And believe me I wouldn't allow OBSF to chop this site up. Serious note, I find it interesting that no one voted angry or voted that JG is the "Real Deal".
