Just in case you're interested the Arkansas press conference is currently live on ESPNU and on http://arkansasrazorbacks.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

This is weird to watch. It is basically the same speech made at Weber about vying for an national title and welcoming back the wayward son word for word.

He said he has not spoke to Petrino in the past 2 weeks. When he came to Weber he said he loved the Petrino brothers and they are good friends. lol

"This was one of the toughest decisions of my life" "Jerry Bovee and the players said we understand, the players said they would do the same" "Thank you coach for the opportunity you gave us" "They understand"

Was our football program really happy for him leaving? He makes us sound like idiots. And what was the opportunity they were thankful about? To be in his presents for 4 months?

John Smith is on ESPN justifying screwing over Weber State. You go John

On leaving Weber:

"Having to leave there was a hard decision, it was shown to me there that what if you were in this situation, they all agreed it was one you have to make and go."

When asked if he came to Ark to be a role model to the players: "I can make a difference in a young man's life, that is why you are in coaching"

"A little redemption for Michigan State? Yes!"

If you had to choose between Arkansas and Weber State.... honestly, where would you rather coach? Think about it. More money, more press, a chance at a D-1 title, and on top of that, he gets the chance to be a savior. I don't think you can really fault the guy for what he did.

I agree mostly with you. Horrible timing, insulting at best. But he told us he was here to win a D-1 title too.

Also, we have the right to be unhappy with our coach leaving us high and dry after the spring scrimmage. That is not out of line.

he didn't have to choose, he was the aggressor, just like he was the aggressor with us, contacting Weber upon hearing about Mcbride stepping down. He probably isn't hired if he doesn't make that call to Bovee.

Easy for me. I would stay in Utah. Money, glory, press, don't want it, don't need it. Besides, I'd rather keep my character intacked than sell it for Money, glory, press, or a BCS title (just to tell you it isn't a DI national title, that is FCS. At the FBS level it is the BCS Title). Like I said earlier, honor, integrity, and character are the essential elements we are here to gain. Smith doesn't have any of those things. Would you turn your back on your community, family, faith, everything you are, for some press clippings or more money? Smith is a prime example of everything that is wrong in our society. If I got a job at Weber, I'd never want to leave. It is my school...my community...my family. This is deeper than anything you can understand. John L. Smith is Weber's Benedict Arnold, Quisling, JUDAS!!

On a side note. He wouldn't face the local media or his team. He never contacted or met with them. He didn't tell his assistant coaches. He made a late phone call to the AD and then packed his stuff before anyone know what was going on. He ran out the back door so that he wouldn't have to face anyone. Definitely craven behavior. If he is culpable for anything it is his inability to face up to his decision here in Ogden and explain himself. Yes he made the decision, but didn't feel it was necessary to talk to his team captains or tell them why he was leaving. Such behavior is classless, pathetic, and a grave sign of cowardice. His face is an abject offense to anything honorable, and whatever he did accomplish has been tarnished by his baseless actions.

No kidding - bald face lies. I bet not a single player, or even coach, knew before he left, and I bet he hasn't talked to any player or coach since he made the decision, so how could he say the players or anyone else said "thanks for what you did for us" during the last 4 months, or said anything nice to him at all.
