@JoshGershon: 2015 Long Beach (Calif.) Poly center Jordan Dallas has committed to #WeberState, per a source.

@JoshGershon: Long Beach Poly's Jordan Dallas will be a tough matchup in Big Sky. 2015 center has good size & keeps improving. Big pickup for #WeberState.

I know Tal is over the moon on this kid. Our frontcourt is going to be absolutely nasty in a few years. What does everyone else think?

Put him with Nzekwesi and Braxton..... Thats going to be nasty front court! I say red shirt Braxton so these guys play together at least 3-4 years and we have bigs that can dominate for many years to come! I think this is a huge pick up for Weber State! We now have a complete frontline that can play deep into March and maybe early April!

The future is bright!

We have more players than scholarships. I'm not sure what Rahe is going to do, but we are over the limit. Almost afraid to conjecture.....

I'm sure that Rahe has a master plan and knowledge of players that might leave the program that we are not aware of today.

But Tal is right. The math clearly shows that we have more players committed to scholarships than we have scholarships available. I'm not sure if that's a motivating factor for current players, but it makes it clear that schools hold significant power over the players. If Weber decides to not offer you a scholarship next year because they've found a better player...... The player is limited in where they can go and when they can play. I'm not sure if the concerns over the increase in players transferring is due to the players looking for greener pastures or the schools looking for better players.

I applaud the conferences that are now offering 4 year scholarships versus the annual renewal process. Puts the emphasis back on education versus being a scholar athlete with very little if any rights. The NCAA has a greater right to your likeness and marketability than the player has to himself. It's going to change recruiting where today there are Pac 12 schools that Weber could recruit against... (OSU, Washington state ) I think with yesterday's scholarship and compensation revisions it just got a lot more difficult.

I don't see where speculation is going to takes us to any place good. Probably best to just let it sort itself out in the spring. I'm sure that Rahe's plan is to build the strongest team he can. As far as the specifics, he probably doesn't have any for now, except to take this years team as far as he can. :coffee:

First, welcome Jordan to the Wildcats!

Second, I agreed, I don't think anyone would have be able to forsee the Aggies losing as many players as they did last year. Things inside the program happen that we never know the what's, where's, and why's. If there are players that don't pan out the coaches will help them find a lower level they can play.

I think this is a great dilemma to have. Glad we are worried about having too many great player than having to worry about our recruiting.

I like your point of view!! I fully agree...I'd rather have the dilemma of having too much rather than having to scrap together players at the last min. Far too many programs have to deal with that and they end up getting players who might not fit the program or are not prepared, ready, or talented enough to play at this level. :thumb:

2015 - 2016
Joel Bolomboy SR
Chris Golden SR
Jaelyn Johnson-Coston SR
Jeremy Senglin JR
Rashaud Gittens JR
Kyndahl Hill JR
Ryan Van Pelt Sop
Hayden Hunter Soph
Zach Braxton Soph/RFR
Ryan Richardson RFR/Soph
Jeremiah Jefferson RFR/Soph
McKay Cannon FR
Juwan Williams FR
Jordan Dallas FR
Emmanual Nzekwesi FR
Riley Court (Mission)

YIKES!! YIKES!! YIKES!! This is one bad-ASS roster. Oh my hell. The Wizard has really done something amazing. :notworthy: Yes, there are two too many, but I'm sure a couple will red shirt next year (I keep hearing that Williams and Nzekwesi are virtually automatic red shirt candidates, well they are freshman, of course they are. And that Cannon, since he is coming back from his mission, will have that option too) and that the coaches will end up moving scholarship money from one player to another or some other type of financial assistance such as a special interest, financial aid support, or the occasional academic scholarship. Also, who knows if everyone will be back next year.

Could the assumption be made that there might be some speculation that Bolomboy may not be back next year?
I have no insite, but imo, unless Joel's offensive game has drastically improved in 6 months and he blows up this year offensively, I don't see any way he would be a NBA draft pick, especially a 1st round pick. And if he isn't a guaranteed 1st round pick, it would be a big mistake for him to leave after his Junior season.:twocents:

Lets be honest! there are some current players who might not have a scholarship next year. We are allowed 13 scholarships........ I don't see current players giving up their scholarships to get other aid. I'm also not sure how much of that is allowed by the NCAA. The new recruits are also signing letters of intent. Weber needs to reduce its number of active scholarship players by 2!

It would be nice if Joel was a 1st round pick, but thats going to require a lot of growth this season. Weber is becoming a program that players want to play for....... we have 2, 3 and some day 4 star players on our roster! that transition is going to come with some pain.

The players are jazzed and cannot wait until Saturday night. the other side of the story is that they are some that are pensive about the potential of being red shirted. They will find out before Saturday.

I'm looking forward to our basketball team going to the dance ..... each of my 4 years at Weber!! What a way to spend spring break!

Sounds like you guys are going to pull a Boise State and "Nebeker" a couple of scholarship players, eh? That's not going to look too good, especially in light of your PAC-12 brethern down the road in SLC announcing they are going to guarantee four-year scholarships to athletes in all sports. Boise State's going to have to come to terms with that PAC 12 guarantee in the future, as well. The Broncos compete with the PAC 12 for a lot of football players, now they're going to have to explain why they won't provide the same four-year guarantee.

I know it goes on at athletic programs all over the country, but I hate to see kids get their scholarships pulled just because they get recruited over. I hope that's not what you guys are doing in this situation.

The way I understand the '4 year' deal is that a percentage of each sports grants will be 4 year and the rest will be regular 1 year deals. I don't know what that percentage will be. That still has to be negotiated, but the same percentage will apply to all sports. Coaches and players will still need some latitude. As long as they don't mess with the total number of grants allowed, it isn't that big of a deal. :coffee:

Weber isn't competing with PAC-12 schools in recruiting, yet. I see nothing wrong with taking someones scholarship away if they don't perform as expected or just aren't good enough. No different than taking an academic scholarship away from someone who doesn't perform in the classroom.

That's the same excuse the folks in Boise used when they pulled two kids' scholarships this summer because they recruited kids that "projected higher" than these young men. I'll pose the same question to you that I posed to the Boise State people who defended cutting their two young men: do you think when Randy Rahe goes into the living room of a prospective recruit, he says, "Oh and one more thing: if your son doesn't produce as a basketball player like we think, or if we have a chance to recruit a better talent, your son will lose his scholarship?" I doubt that's part of the recruiting discussion. It's typically more along the lines of, "your son will be a part of the Weber family and we'll take great care of him."

I'm not accusing Rahe or Weber of doing anything that underhanded, because nobody knows what the true circumstances are surrounding this situation just yet. Some kids may be leaving the program for personal reasons, may be going on missions, or may just be home sick. All I'm saying is I hope Weber is not doing what Boise State did, which was flat out over-recruit a couple of kids and then send them packing. I know it's a hopelessly naive sentiment on my part, but college athletics should be about kids getting an education first and foremost. Once they commit to you, you should honor that academic commitment to them.
