Turns out this was old news about him being the DFO. He was just hired on to the coaching staff as the special teams coordinator.

Josh Brown
Director of Football Operations • First Year • San Jose State '03

Josh Brown, who played football at San Luis Obispo High School in the early 1990s, is in his first season as Cal Poly's Director of Football Operations.

Brown coached the linebackers and was recruiting coordinator at Sacramento State for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. The Hornets posted their first six-win season in 15 years in 2008 and had the No. 14-ranked rush defense in the Football Championship Subdivision in 2007. Both squads produced a pair of first-team All-Big Sky Conference linebackers as well as an honorable mention.

Brown was a defensive graduate assistant at Arizona State in 2006, an assistant coach at Foothill College from 2000-05, an assistant at Gavilan College for the 1999 season and was linebackers coach at San Luis Obispo High School in 1998, helping the Tigers to a 12-2 mark and CIF-Southern Section runner-up finish.

A 1994 graduate of San Luis Obispo High School, Brown played two seasons at Gavilan College and one year at Oklahoma. He earned his bachelor's degree in sociology at San Jose State in 2003 and his master's degree in curriculum and instruction, secondary education, at Arizona State in 2007.

Obviously Poly's SID is not very smart because we had a 6 win season in 1999 and 7 win season in 2000...not first time in 15 years...

He was the DFO last year at Cal Poly. This will be his 2nd year.

Are you sure? I thought he was at Kansas last year? In fact, footballscoop.com, which isn't always right, says he now been named the special teams coordinator. So is he the DFO or a coach?

I knew Josh and his wife, Kasey, when they were at Sac State. Great people. I think they are having their first child in a week or two.

He was DFO for the 2010 season. Cal Poly lost a coach after the season so he could be moving over to coach for this coming season.

Actually, I found out the real scoop. He had the title of DFO in the spring of 2009, but during the season he was the defensive quality coach for Kansas. He was hired last week as the special teams coordinator and is also a defensive coach. Got the news from one of his wife's best friends tonight. Both he and his wife, Kasey's, parents live in SLO, so its a perfect situation for them.

Thanks for the clarification HHD. I should have said that he was listed as the DFO for football during the 2009 season on Cal Poly's web site. I guess they did not update it when he left for Kansas.

Looks like a good fit for him with his family situation and a great hire for Cal Poly.
