JSU at (3) EWU Game Thread

Their freshman QB doesn't go down I seriously doubt we win that game !!! AND whats with VA and this BS of bopping around and dissing the game ???? That needs to STOP !!! Towsen will be bringing it next Saturday hope these Eags are ready for some smashmouth football ! get better focused !!!!

I'll see you guys in Cheney on Saturday!!! My first Cheney game since 2009. As I said in an earlier thread, I needed
1) EWU to get to semis
2) EIU to lose before semis
3) The game to be on Saturday

I hit the trifecta. My flight comes in late Friday. I'll be pumped at Roos on Saturday. Last time I was there it had a different name.

Go Eags!!!!

Kudos to JSU, great game plan, good execution. Hope your young QB makes a speedy recovery. With VA being the same type of scrambling QB, we hold our breath at times when he seems to go down (even if it's only a cramp). You can look forward to a good season next year by the looks of things. To those fans that made the trip out, I hope you enjoy your stay and have a safe trip back home. :)

Dear God, that was an atrocious effort today. No offense to Jax state, because they are a disciplined football team on the rise, but we should've beaten that team like they stole somethin'.

The defense once again looked like they hadn't watched a minute of film in the previous week and didn't show up until halftime. We aren't going to beat any of the remaining teams without a 4 quarter effort on D.

And our offense goes from moving the ball all over the field with butterfingers, to doing nothing and looking totally without confidence. Thank God for Quincy Forte and a couple of timely catches, and an Albert Havili bailout interception.

You could tell there was no pride in the team or staff when the game was over; they knew they played like garbage and almost pissed one away. Oh well... we need to learn that such a performance won't get it done against the top teams and get back to playing our game. Remember, we played like absolute ass in the quarterfinals in 2010 before finding another gear against Villanova.

Yes, just a shit game all-around. The good news is that we rarely follow up a poor effort with another poor effort. Too much is on the line next Saturday, and most of these guys remember what happened last season. I think we'll put a complete game together and dominate.

Fxck that was one UGLY game. Vernon adams lost all faith in himself after throwing that second pick. Quincy Forte bailed EWU out and thank GOD for that pick 6. EWU won this game on talent alone and not game planning or executing. That JSU QB was not even trying and he was dismantling the EWu defense. (As stated earlier) If he stays in the game EWU probably doesn't win. BUT THATS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A QB RUNS LIKE THAT-YOU GET HURT! So they went to that well one too many times.

EWU's defense looked lost in the first half, and they were leaving a lot of JSU WRs uncovered just begging JSU to throw quick routes. It seemed like EWU never adjusted to that either, and more like JSU was just outmatched after the Fr Qb went down. EWU shut down the feature back and that's what makes me think EWU has the edge against Towson. EWU also has the game at home. Fumble that shdda been 7, INT that shdda been 7 = EWU shot themselves in the foot..

I think VA and the gang KNOW they played a mediocre game & I think Beau Baldwin gets in their asses this week and we see EWU firing on all cylinders against towson.

Still shaking my head. Won so many battles today, but lost 3rd down most of the game on D and VA was inexplicable at times on decision making. In the end the war was won. Did it look like VA was favoring his left arm late in the game?

Line play was good all around today, that alone will win a lot of games. The D on long 3rd downs didn't spy the QB, play contain or pressure. If they did spy, it wasn't our fastest LB or safety. Would have rather seen extra guy off backside edge and take a chance at incomplete pass, breakup, interception, hurry or sack; more good than bad could of occurred given the actual outcomes.

Lack of aggression led to several JSU drives. Have to agree with Dopa, there is little evidence that film plays a role in the D game plan. Hard to tell all the time on ESPN3 coverage without replays, but our personnel groupings were not a good matchups in key downs that I could see. Results were haphazard with a lot of great effort by 9-10 wasted on breakdowns by one or more players on nearly every down (especially D).

Ref's sucked. Holds on nearly every big play were evident, so the D had to overcome those as well.

Kudo's to D line and O line, Forte, Clark, Cupp, Lee and Scheutzle off the top of my head. Easy to lose sight of just how hard this game is to play. The superior team won today in spite of itself. Proud of the team and their effort as always.

Bunch of Debbie Downers. We won the game period. Whether it was an ugly win or not is irrelevant. Obviously the two turnovers in the redzone were horrible and offense didn't finish drives in the second half. It also bugged me that Baldwin didnt use his timeouts before the half to try and get the ball back with a minute left. But like i said we put this one behind us, fix the mistakes, and move on.

Excited to be at the Inferno next saturday. GO EAGS!

Whew, that was closer than I'd like to have seen it. I'm wondering if the cold weather affects Vernon more than we can tell? In the last two game we has not been the same VA we have come to know and love. Or was it the defense of JSU?
I'm sure the players and coaches know that if we do not play better against Towson it will be our last game of this season.
Be certain of one thing though I am not questioning the pride of our players, coaches, and staff. These people have worked full time 7 days a week 365 days a year for up to 5 years to be better and stronger players for their team. Far be it from me to express my digital courage with a bunch of garbage implying they to not care or are not proud to be an Eagle. Anyone can question certain plays or strategies but to question ones character by questioning their pride is a new low.
I am confident we will learn from this win and move on to beat Towson.
Go Eagles

I guarantee it was not pleasant to be in the locker room after the game. This is a team with expectations, and they did not play like a championship contender today. The mish-mosh of personnel we're playing at safety gave us a lot of problems today. As Lucky said, the only good news was that we got pretty good efforts all around from our OL and DL, and that was enough to save us.

We need to do some quick analysis of why the effort was so disjointed today and come out fired up to be on national TV and win a trip to the National Championship next week.

If you are talking about my post, I mean to say they were obviously not proud of their performance today. You could see Baldwin was not a happy camper even after the game was won. I'm sure they have pride in their collective efforts building a winning program, but not with the effort put forth today.

Great win for EWU... We are very proud of our Gamecocks this year, and we should be even better for next year. Losing 2 on Offense and 3 on Defense... If Eli stayed in the game I think the score is closer. Without the pick 6, who knows... Shortell has been really good this year, so I won't throw blame... I was shocked and didn't know what to say when that happened. Your offense was every bit as advertised. Slow West down, and you guys beat Towson. Congrats on a great year for you guys, and maybe you'll come play us next year, 8-) ....

I see this a bit differently. JSU's defense front was really good and brought serious pressure. They had 11 sacks last week and 50 for the season. I think they had one or two today. Our line did play well but what I saw was some really good coaching and play calling. JSU's defense is what caused us problems on offense. I was impressed. In fact, I was so impressed I think we should hire their DC. I like the aggressive in your face scheme. Don't be too hard on our guys, they played a well coached good team today. Not our best effort and too many unforced errors but I actually thought our offensive game plan was a masterpiece. Execution was not. GO EAGS!

These young men have earned the chance at something very rare and special. They have overcome a great deal to get here, and from what I've seen, they are capable of taking the next step.

Here's to a focused week of practice and a solid performance next week.
