LDopaPDX said:Hey jsu, what happened in that game versus Easter Illinois? It seems like it got ugly early. By looking at the two teams, it seems like the Cocks should have matched up better. Was it just a case of playing a bad game, or having a bunch of turnovers, or what?
The result just doesn't seem in line with your team's other performances. Or are they just that good? Credit the OVC as it seems like a much improved conference. Your group already looks like a stronger bunch than the new SoCon.
Yeah, this is the guy. He's one of the nice ones....jsualumnus said:That was me that posted the link to our forum. I know about the copying and pasting with look-a-likes...I bit because I wanted to play... Couldn't keep up as I've been in meetings the last 2 days... I wish we did it... Some guys probably don't know about the Montana Grizzlies thing... I do, as Montana has always been a team I've followed since I was a kid growing up in Great Falls. I have visited their forum, as a troll  as they had been playing against Georgia Southern, another team we tend to keep track of down south... (didn't say I liked them)...I used to manage college/resort programs while with Coca-Cola North America and visited their campus many times.
All in good fun guys...

Great question... There were several factors.
1. The sustained winds in that game were 25-30 mph the whole game. We started out facing the wind which took our passing game out immediately. This is where we got behind early. They score 35 points in the 1st qtr...
2. Jimmy Garoppolo is an amazing player. Some analysists predict he'll go in the middle rounds this next NFL draft, and I can tell you that he's another Tony Romo story but better than Romo was and will ever will be. Jimmy has all the tools, and he's being overshadowed by Brock Jensen from NDSU.
3. EIU's O-Line is big...very big. They're quick and strong, but we did keep Garoppolo to under 200yds passing, as the wind was a huge factor...
4. EIU's defensive front was also very big and strong...
5. It was such an off game for JSU that when we got behind early we were out of it. I don't remember us playing that poorly, but when you look at all the factors...1st qtr scoring, the wind, EIU's size and quickness we just had a bad day.
Things have definitely not been the same since that game, as I believe we've turned that corner...

Offense - we should be able to light these guys up. JSU is VERY aggressive and brings a lot of pressure on defense. They tend to leave their corners with little to no help and run a lot of press man coverage. They have not seen a receiving corp like ours all year, not even close, so if our receivers can separate at the line of scrimmage (which they should) we will have a field day throwing the ball. This is the type of game where Kupp will win a lot of jump balls and Hill will just blow by some DB's. They have faced EIU and their QB, but Adams is just as good but more mobile. Adams has the same amount of TD passes (51) but has more rushing TD's and a better efficiency. If they bring Pressure, Adams can escape. VA tends to look deep when he breaks the pocket, but he had his opportunities last week to run for big yardage and didn't, I think he will run more this week. JSU will get their sacks and hurries, but if they bring the pressure like they typically do, we should have a field day passing. I also think Forte has a big day, probably more so in the passing game than rushing. If we are rolling and they bring pressure, we could literally put up 60+ points.
Defense - Again, JSU seems to be very aggressive. They run a lot. It seems they have a similar offense to Sam Houston but rely more on Power than Speed. Their QB runs and this is the type of offense that has hurt us in the past so I think they will move the ball, but their lack of overall team speed compared to others we have seen in the past will help us. We struggle with teams that just have a ton of speed and I just don't see it with JSU. I think our defensive game plan will be similar to last week, make them move the ball and beat us through the air. Can they, maybe, will they, no.
OVERALL - this looks like a mismatch on paper and as an EWU fan I think it is. JSU does appear to be playing well and does have a nice win at Mcneese last week. I think their fans underestimate how good we are and our conference is heads and shoulders better than the OVC. What seems to get lost in all of this is that Eastern is 20-1 after November 1st the past 4 years, including a national championship and a national semifinal appearance....There is a reason the vegas lines and money are moving more in EWU's Direction, I believe the spread is now double digits.
Looking forward to a great game and win for the Eags! Also hoping for Towson to pull off the victory tonight!

Have you watched them play or speculation?
If you have watched I'm curious how well they hide their blitz's and coverages? VA is getting better all the time at seeing what is coming so if they like to blitz we can expect to burn them.
Teams lately are trying to jam our receivers at the LOS, especially Cooper. HAve you noticed this in previous games? That is good because I'm sure Kupp and company are learning how to overcome that tactic.
Eagles roll in this one.

Just posted on the same thing. VERY butt hurt. The other funny thing is he says won't post on our board only AGS. But he mentioned in another post that AGS had EWU winning 2 to 1 and by a blowout. Not sure I see the difference between the AGS board or our board

Since I can't post on the JSU board - several day-long log in problems, I'll get my 'fix' over here. What Babers has done at EIU is nothing short of amazing. He has all of the tools and could compete with any non-AQ FBS team and a good many BCS teams. We'll all watch Garoppolo on Sundays.
Incidentally, looking forward to a good game. It's just a shame ESPN 2 didn't pick it up - for a wider audience!

I thought it was funny... All in good taste. I thoroughly enjoyed making one of their kickers look like Charlie Brown.
Big Fan... It's just a little fun. I've enjoyed their fans visiting our site. I haven't heard one nasty slam on us, and I haven't seen anything that down right degrades JSU. They truly believe they will stomp us, beat us silly, or put us in our place...and that's fine for them to believe...I know, as do some of their fans, that the game should be close and very good. If you have seen something I haven't then correct me if I'm wrong...luv ur passion!
They've been civil over here, but mentioned me by name over there... I figured if they mentioned me by name, I might as well give them something to mention me for . Now quiet down before you mess up my fishing.
As to the picture of the fish!...Got it.
Yep! CAUGHT ONE!
I am still laughing out loud at the "whoooosh!" sound the "states ending in 'ton'" made as it flew over his head. The obvious suplerfluousness of the comment was what made it funny... and the fact that it was received in the way it was made it priceless. It is even funnier that he observed the fallacy of ad hominem, but missed the intentional reductio ad absurdum vis-à-vis avoidance of fallacy of composition. It is a bit unorganized, but there is definitely composition and reductio.
