Juan Anderson

For those doubters (catcat), this is easy to say, we really want Juan Anderson to become a Wildcat. He would be a great fit here in Ogden and Weber would be a great fit for him. Definite All-Conference or more, type of guy. :notworthy:

What???

I was doubting ur lack of sources. Lol. Not doubting the player. Dont know a thing about him, never seen him play or even a single stat, sir. you did post a link to his twitter though. i am sure if we went back and reviewed this thread we would find i was only doubting talhad not any prospective wsu players.

I assume he's transferring for more playing time since he only played 13 minutes a game this season (and only averaged 2.7 points). If so, why would he pick a PAC12 school? He would get starters minutes at Weber.

The fact that it has gone this long, is in our favor. We have a scholarship available and don't have other players waiting to sign, if he doesn't. These other schools may just fill their spots and not wait on his decision. He could really make a name for himself at Weber State. At these other schools..., not so much. :coffee:

I looked for Randy at Brad Larsen's wedding reception last night. He wasn't there when I was. He may have been with a recruit, who knows. I'm still thinking that there will be an announcement by the end of the week. :thumb:

here is a good link about this prospect when he was in high school. doesn't talk about weber but still interesting.

Oldrunner is right. I like our chances based on what he said. Juan posted in his tweet a couple weeks ago that he was considering Cal, Oregon, Weber St. and ASU. Oregon just signed a transfer plus added 7 other recruits. They are out. Cal brought in 5 new players and Im sure if he was going there would would know by now. Im thinking they are out. That leave us and ASU. I looked at their roster and team news and it looks like they do have a spot open at ASU. We know we have a spot at Weber for him. If I was Juan I would see that Weber State has 3 players graduating. He can take the year and play against Berry. The 3 position would be his the next year. He woiuld probably start and play 30-35 minutes a game. Have a great chance to be all conference and you know Weber State will be competing for the conference championship. Ok, now looking at ASU. Yes they are in in Pac 12 which is cool, but ASU is a middle of the road team at best. I doubt he would get 30-35 minutes there and I doubt he would have a chance to be all conference. Phoenix is a dump to live it too. Anyway, Im just a dumb Weber State fan that bleeds purple, but I think I have valid points I hope Im right. WEBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You bengalhater, this is from when he was in high school. A bit dated if you ask me.

On another note...talking about ASU here is what is available:

They could use another SF/SG (wing) player. However, it doesn't look like he will get much playing time next year. Since there are two players ahead of him and you never know what the Devils will sign. I think his best option is Weber.

Sorry wazzuwildcat, lived in PHX area almost 10 years and have lived all over country and in my opinion this is an amazing place to live....

Anyway, I've been following ASU's situation. Evan Gordon, who was a decent 2/3 for ASU this last season and is the brother of NBA Player Eric Gordon, graduated and is using the transfer rule for graduates to attend Indiana University and play for the Hoosiers next year. ASU is thin and inexperienced now at the 2/3 position, they were relying on and expecting Gordon to have a big year for them next year. Many were picking ASU with All-American candidate Jahii Carson at the 1, Gordon and a very good 5, Jordan Bachynski, to be a top 25 team and compete for the top of the Pac-12. So I'm sure having lost Gordon that ASU is recruiting Juan Anderson hard. Now does that mean Anderson would start and get big minutes at ASU, who knows? ASU has had a big problem in the Herb Sendek era holding onto players for 4 years and other than a few good seasons (last year and James Harden years), winning. I've also thought that duing the Sendek era his teams have always underperformed including the James Harden years and even this year.

ASU has almost no basketball tradition to speak of and is perenially a mediocre Pac-12 team. The team does not get great support from the student body or the community and has a nice arena but not spectacular (DEC is much nicer). ASU is a football and baseball school. Basketball plays third fiddle. However, the athletics leadership changed last year and has ASU's athletics program headed in a very positive direction. There is a lot of momentum in the PHX/ASU community compared to a few years ago. I know that Herb Sendek in under tremendous pressure to turn around the basketball program to respectability and produce consistent winners. So losing Gordon was a blow to Sendek. I'm sure Juan Anderson is high on their list.

Having said that, if Juan Anderson is what most on here expect him to be I hope he gives Weber State a fair shot and considers becoming a Wildcat. Weber State has a great coach in Randy Rahe and great assistants. Weber has one of the better basketball programs in the nation with a tradition of excellence and championships. We have good community support and an amazing arena. Weber is a great school, I received an excellent education at Weber. I went to graduate school after Weber and I was as well if not better prepared for graduate school than my classmates who attended Duke, Northwestern, Cal, Stanford, NYU, Columbia, Illinois, USC, UCLA, Utah, BYU and etc... But most of all Weber Hoops wins and winning is fun! Weber State is a basketball school first and foremost when it comes to athletics.

So from someone who supports both ASU and Weber State athletics and lives in the PHX area I think Juan Anderson would make a very wise choice is choosing Weber State!

I didn't mean to offend any fellow Arizona cat fans about my Phoenix comment. I just think its too damn hot down there. I love the 4 seasons here in Utah and the mountains. Down there you get hot and crazy hot weather. My brother lives in Case Grande, Arizona. No way I could live there, but to each his own. :)

Good information Zonacat.

Our coaches believe that it is between us and ASU. I agree with all of your points. If he wants to make a big splash, it's Weber State all the way. If he wants to be on a mediocre team from a bigger conference, it's ASU. Really not that hard of a choice, if you ask me. :twocents:

Ha.Ha. No offense taken. I have family that feels the same way but I have to stick up for the desert... Go Weber!

Weber isn't going after anyone else this Spring. If Juan wants the spot it is his. And I really hope he takes it. He would be an instant success here at Weber. Our coaches have proven their ability to get the most from their players and help them to become better. Look at Richardson, Tresnak, Morris, Mahoney, Bull, Harris, Valieka, McCoy, Hughey, Berry, Otis (case in point of a player getting some time at SMU, starting at one point, and then transferring to Weber where he became an all conference player), and most important LILLARD!! In one afternoon our coaches could help Juan develop into much better player and help him regain his confidence in his shot. Nothing against Herb, but our program is pretty damn good. And he would be the king of the campus...

ASU: Basketball is the third fiddle. No tradition. Okay arena

WEBER: Basketball is king. Storied tradition. One of the best arenas in the country and a great fan base.

talhad,

you forgot the best example of the rahe era. patten sr. lol. he was an average 3 in the big sky as a jr. when rahe became coach, patten was named the big sky mvp as a 4.

Oh yeah...Perfect example!! Patton. Yeah, he really hadn't done much until Rahe came around. He readily admits it too. He became something frightful under Rahe's tutelage. Also, Daviin Davis??

Agreed, in comparison to Herb Sendek, I believe that Weber's coaches always get the best out of their players and develop them to their potential. I've always believed that Rahe's teams play to a higher level collectively than the sum of the players individual talents. A great credit to Coach Rahe and his assistants. Sendek's teams, especially how his team faded this year down the stretch seem to have more talent than how the team plays. ASU has had a big problem with players transferring and leaving the program also. It's always been a red flag to me. And as someone who attends ASU basketball games I want them to succeed but if I had a son who had to choose between Weber and ASU right now for basketball, no question it would be Weber...

I was looking at Juan's twitter this morning and I noticed that he and Lillard were tweeting back and forth yesterday. Thats got to be good for us getting Juan if Lillard is friends with him and they tweet. :)

I saw the same thing this morning. I'm thinking that there is a high probability that he will be a Wildcat. I think it will be good for him and good for us. It would certainly help in our future recruiting. The coaches could focus their efforts, knowing that the two forward positions are solid for the next several years.

I'm stoked. :thumb:

What would signing Juan Anderson mean to the basketball program? I have never really seen him play or know too much about him. What type of player is he? Mostly a defensive guy, offensive guy or both? Which WSU player would he most resemble?

First thing, he was a starter for a team that made it to the Elite 8 this season. He didn't have huge numbers, but he was only a Sophomore. Also, in his defense, he was injured most of last summer and the end of his freshman season. That really limited his chance to develop in the off season.

He has a really clean shot and moves really well without the ball. He would fit Rahe's system because of a number of intangibles he would bring: toughness, enthusiasm, an awareness to play within a system and understanding set plays (Marquette is a system oriented program), he has great feet, and he is a team first player. He is a defensive player first, but in our system his offensive abilities would shine. There isn't anyone Weber has had in a while that is like Juan, maybe Daviin Davis or Franklin Session (without the attitude) but far better and taller than both Daviin and Frank, and far better offensively. He can shoot, penetrate, dish, and play with his back towards the hoop. He is a guy who could play the 2, 3, and 4. He can spread the floor, drive to the bucket, and has mad hops. Marquette fans loved his ability to stop an opposing teams ability to run. A block in transition was viewed by many Marquette fans as the play of the year.

What would it mean...IT WOULD BE HUGE. He was a 4 star recruit coming out of high school. And with J-Rich, Berry, and Fulton all leaving after this year, it gives the Cats depth at three of those positions. Even though he would be a 2/3 here at Weber. It is never a bad thing having guys who can play multiple positions on your team. He along with Royce Williams, Richaud Gittens, and Kyndahl Hill (Josh Fuller somewhat too) could all play the 3 and if needed be on the floor at the same time (Gittens [combo guard could play the 1], Williams/Anderson 2/3, and Hill 4) It gives the coaches so many more options. If he signs, this class would be the best class at Weber in sometime. Think of it...Senglin, Wheels, Anderson, Hill, and Bolomboy...Reminds me of the 94/95 team. And then we still have Gittens, Williams, Fuller, Hajek and Van Pelt on the bench. YIKES!! The Sky should be scared.

Juan Anderson 4 Star (3)
Jeremy Senglin 3 Star (1/2)
Richaud Gittens 3 Star (1, 2, or 3)
Josh Fuller 3 Star (3/4)
McKay Cannon 2.5 Star (he is totally under-rated) (1)
