first, whatever, southern methodist?!? enjoy yourself there, June.
second, you'll be making near 2 million! pay Hawaii the 400k and bank 1.6 million this year. end of story.

Hawai'i fans are debating this. They think he should keep the $400,000 as a thank you for saving the football program since back in 1999 there were growing rumors of the university either dropping the program down to I-AA or Division II status OR drop the program altogether.

That was a decade ago, Hawaii is fine with money now.

JJ ought to just cough it up, he will be making enough at SMU.

June Jones has done more for the state of Hawaii than most politicians. He shouldn't have to pay the University a cent, IMO. The problem is our precious AD. He screwed this thing up by not making JJ sign an agreement in writing. This was just a verbal agreement between the two. The chancellor at UH-Manoa said verbal agreements don't mean anything. She only goes by agreements in writing, which makes sense. This is Frazier fault. June Jones shouldn't have to go through this litigation garbage because our previous AD didn't know how to do his job. The UH should just acknowledge the fact that JJ's done so much for the State of Hawaii and University and let him keep the money.

I agree. The real morons are JJ's agent and "El Moron" himself, Herman Frazier. I agree wth the UH chancellor. A verbal agreement usually doesn't hold up in court 9 times out of 10 anyway.

Exactly. Sounds like Frazier the procrastinator was setting JJ up for failure.
I'm glad this moron is gone. He was doing all he could to bring the UH athletic department down w/ him. :x

It could be worse. UH coulda had Lee Moon, Sr. That guy came super close to getting the football program at Wyoming to be dropped.

Well Burman isn't exactly the best AD ever. When was the last time Wyoming won 8 games?
We were doing awesome w/ a bad AD.

So wins on the football field are the way to judge an Athletic Director?

Partly...yes!!!

I would say Burman is struggling as of now, all of UW's sports teams are below mediocre.

I'm moving this thread to the sports forum.

UW does well in all the sports nobody cares about. I heard the Brokeback Mountain Hunting team is pretty good.

Anyways back to Jones, tough subject here, the man left his men in their darkest hours, I heard he was talking with SMU even before the Sugar Bowl! Sort of undoes everything he did at UH.

There was a rumor he was doing that. He was frustrated w/ many things that were going on behind the scenes. The AD wasn't fundraising money like he promised he would. JJ felt he did everything he could w/ the facilities we had but being able to take the program to the next level would be virtually impossible. I mean, SJSU has better facilities than UH. No joke!!! Sadly, JJ felt the only way to wake up the higher ups of the University and key political figures in Hawaii was to take a job at another school. He was right. For the first time since I can remember, politicians took a trip over to the UH to look at the run down facilities and agreed that they are way overdue for an upgrade.
It's sad that it took the greatest HC the UH has ever saw to leave the program for certain people to wake up. When JJ left, eveyone was devestated. I know I was!!!!! But when I think about it, nothing but positives things have happened since. Apparently, politicians will be sending money to the UH to upgrade facilities (academic and athletic.) Hopefully, that actually does indeed happen. Also, embattled former UH AD, Herman Frazier was fired the day after June Jones left for the Ponies. Then former owner of the Hawaii Bowl, Jim Donovan was hired as the new AD. He was a former player as well as assistant AD under Hugh Yoshida. This man has done and awesome job so far and things are definitely looking up in the athletic department. Last year's defensive coordinator Greg McMackin was hired as the new coach. He was the perfect choice for all the players and most of the boosters and fans. Because of this, the same schemes will remain on both sides of the football. We didn't lose too many recruits and not one player transferred out. The connection w/ the UH football coach and the local community is at an all time high. Our spring game w/ be this Saturday and many expect a record amount of fans to be at the game at Aloha Stadium.
Right now, all is good in Warrior land!

Speaking of the Warriors, congrats on landing Roderick Flemings for basketball, most likely a one and done player but hey, can't get any better then 1st Team All-American .

Thanks, PSU. The island is going crazy over landing him. He's the best recruit since we landed AC Carter in '96. Flemmings will lead us to a WAC title and help us make some noise in the dance!
