Just a Suggestion

Everyone talks about needing better funding for facilities and athletics, well why dont we call up the UNC graduates in the NFL. The school should be contacting Vincent Jackson, Aaron Smith, Reed Doughty and Dirk Johnson. How great would it be if we had a Aaron Smith locker room or a Vincent Jackson weight room. Joey Porter donated $200,000 to CSU for a locker room why cant we get these guys to do the same. Or maybe next homecoming game we invite all former graduates that played professionally to the game and take them on a tour of our outdated facilities. Maybe it will spark interest for them to come together and donate. Just a suggestion maybe some of them already do donate but it would be cool if we had more interest from them, then it could spark more interest in the community and students.

Aaron Smith for the Pittsburgh Steelers makes 4.16 million a year for a total of 25 million over 6 years.

May 28, 2008 Dirk Johnson the Cardinals punter delivered the keynote speech for Montrose High graduation.

You know what I was thinking the same thing the other day.

Every one is talking about not enough funding, and I thought wait a minute we have some UNC ball players in the NFL.

I liked your suggestion so much that I sent an email to Vincent Jackson via the front office of the San Diego Chargers. I think all of the rest of you on this site should do the same. Just go to the following web address. http://www.chargers.com/contact-us

Wow, that would work on so many levels. It would obviously bring in money, it would foster a connection with our pro players and maybe encourage them to donate more in the fututre, it could help with recruiting (reminding the recruits of the players that have played for UNC).

Without trying to be mean, don't you think someone at UNC already thought of that? I mean, really? You don't just call one of them up and say "Can you give us some money?"

It is probably a little different with Vincent and Reed because they haven't been in the NFL very long. They don't have Jerry Porter money yet, they are still playing on their first contracts (obviously Vince makes more than Reed since he was a 2nd round pick and if he keeps playing the way he is, he'll be the highest-paid UNC guy before long).

The "money" would come from the older guys. However somewhere along the way somebody at UNC pissed off Aaron Smith and those guys, since they haven't really done anything since they graduated. Whether it be a former A.D. or a President or booster, they have never really given anything (money, made appearances, etc.).

The department should work on some way to honor them first, and then maybe after that relationship is fostered a little bit more, then those athletes might want to give back a little bit.

GO Bears 2003 said Smith was pissed off at Fallis, but Fallis is long gone (thank god). The rest have basically no connection to the school now that their coaches were fired.

Reed did make some extra bucks by selling his number to DeAngelo Hall recently, though:

Note the comment about needing furniture. When you factor in his son's early medical issues, there's probably a push to save what they can right now, in case he doesn't stick long. And, just to clarify, I'm not saying he's not going to have a long NFL career, but I'm saying that any player has to question how long they're going to be in league and Reed's no dummy.

Vincent is participating in a golf weekend in Arizona in March sponsored by the Alumni Association, in recognition of the start up of the Vincent Jackson Athletic Scholarship. The weekend includes golf on 3/13 and a Rockies Spring Training game on 3/14. I'd suggest getting in touch with UNCAA about that, as they had fliers in the High Plains Club for that at the last two home games.

I will be surprised if Reed starts another game for the Redskins. His injuries coupled with the fact that the players replacing him are better play makers makes me believe his time with the Skins (and maybe the NFL) will soon be over. :(

You need a new AD. Many long time supporters were disenfranchised by the athletic administration, and have moved their giving to other schools in the area. Not a dime will return from them until there is new leadership and direction for UNC Football.

"other schools in the area", yea like those clowns that stood on the sideline with Joe Glenn the past 6 years, promising money. You guessed it, they didn't give Wyoming anything either.
