What a chump!

After the Kats turned the ball over on downs, Eastern Washington head coach Beau Baldwin elected to add to his lead instead of taking a knee when his team had the ball at the 1-yard line with seconds to play.

“Personally, I probably would have taken a knee,” Keeler said. “But we scheduled a football game. If we’re put in that position, then that is what it is. Everyone runs their programs differently. I think, possibly, with style points and everything, those things are always taken in account.”

In my head, this would be from Coach Baldwin...

After the Kats turned the ball over on downs, Sam Houston head coach K.C. Keeler elected to add to the length of the game, hoping for a miracle turnover for a TD then an onside kick recovery and an immediate TD strike instead of conceding the game when his team no chance to win with seconds to play and EWU possessing the ball on the 1-yard line.

“Personally, I probably would have not called a time out,” Baldwin said. “But we scheduled a football game. If we’re put in that position when an idiot coach calls a time out with :54 seconds left, down by 14 and the other team has the ball with a first down on our 1-yard line and we've had no chance of stopping them while they ran dive play after dive play, then that is what it is. Everyone runs their programs differently. I think, possibly, with style points and everything, it's ultimately their job to stop my offense, not my job to stop my offense. I'd have taken a knee but they wanted to keep playing.”

Dozy, like the way you think. I couldn't have put it any better! Personally not that big of a deal..if that happened to us I would be upset our "D" decided to give up and not make a stop then question how our coaching staff gave up all those yards/td's in the 4th qtr.(whether it be 3 or 4).

*Typical Keeler not taking responsibility (good luck with him SHSU).

Agree w coach....shouldn't have done it regardless of the cheap shots by SHSU. EWU is too solid of a program to pull a Harbaugh.

Well, of course after the SHSU timeout Keeler lost his ability to be offended. Classy and typical of Beau to admit that he wishes he would have done things differently...but I'm glad he went for the TD. He was simply at the end of a tough, emotional game...and he was into it! The same Beau that goes for a touchdown on 4th down vs Towson. Love it.

To All,
What team did we play on Saturday? I taught it was SHSU! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Well their Player Michael Wade, stated we are not good enough to beat them. Michael must of been on dream street, we played them and kicked their "Asses" I hate getting down to entry like this. I must say I will give him the benefit of the doubt, it was in the locker room, every one mad because of a loss to the "Bad Ass Eagles",   :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: who knows we might have been saying the things they were saying if we had lost, but we are classy Team. Remember what President Truman said many years ago, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen"   , same goes with Football or any sport.  . Got to go. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

Where did you see or hear Baldwin said he wishes he would have done differently? The above post is not a quote by Beau.

clawman,
Off the subject. "Great Walleye" and thank you, will try the Smoked Salmon next. Hope to see you today at Northern Quest. Found Coaches Show will be in the "Impulse Room". We will miss Ex. President "A", they should be in Kansas by now. Spoke to both of them after the game Saturday, they hate to leave, they are going where their daughter is located as a Police Officer.Vic

I agree you don't just do it because their players were dirty. I agree that you show class and take a knee when the opponent has thrown in the towel. HOWEVER, that wasn't the case. Keeler didn't throw in the towel. He wanted to fight to the end. Accordingly, you keep running dive plays until they stop you, until you score, or until the time runs out. It was Keeler's choice...

Please turn up the sensitivity on your sarcasm detector. Thank you.

The last time I remember a team running it up on Eastern was when Cal did it 5 or 6 years ago. It doesn't really have a place and shouldn't be done. That said, Eastern wasn't exactly trying misdirection, they just ran the dive and SHSU couldn't stop it. They should've just done their part and let the clock run out. No winners in that situation.

I don't disagree with the call. Could Baldwin called for them to take a knee? Yes. Should Keeler have taken a timeout with a minute left in the game and down by 14 points with no possibility to win the game? Probably not. I don't see this as the big issue some are making it out to be. Lots of emotion involved in that game. I'm just glad we ended up on the right side of the scoreboard.

Beau clarified why he should have taken a knee on the radio program today. Once we scored there is the risk of injury to the players during the kickoff and plays that were run afterwards.

He also quoted Steve Spurrier that it wasn't his job to stop his own offense!!!

Pretty sure Eastern won. Afraid that recognizing this team has a very good chance of making a run all the way to Frisco will somehow impact negatively their chances? Coach Baldwin can handle it, the players showed they can handle it and am sure a majority of the fanbase on this board can handle it. No need for "devils advocates" especially as it pertains to this team's or fan's behavior. Get on board and enjoy the ride. Reality, this is one FINE team, in every aspect. Proud to be an Eagle.
