Keys for a Win in Provo...

What will be the determining factor in this game? Are we going to have to beat them with our guard line or are our bigs going to have to dominate. I think we are going to have to beat them at the arc. I believe we will need to make 10+ 3-pointers to win. What do you guys think? What are the keys to a victory going to be?

We may well get 10+ 3s. However, I think the key will be if we can get in the face of their bigs, and get to the free through line. I think we need to go to the glass strong and not be setling for turn around jumpers or 10' hook shots. If we do those things, the three pointers will come easier. YBU-Utah is a lot like SJSU, but without the athletic guards. I think we match up better with them than SJSU. The one area that we can't match up is the refs. I hope we get some honest refs, but I really don't think it will happen. The church has a lot of money and the refs seem to need it. :wall:

I am sure we will see quick fouls called down low so Fulton and others will see plenty of minutes. I agree that the matchups are better than SJSU. Expect a lot of zebra attention on Dame, after all they won't want anyone threatening the shrine to Fredette, but Lillard is heady enough to play through that. Everyone will need to contribute and step up, but this is the team that can draw a line in the sand and breakthrough FINALLY. 8 on 5 - bring it on.

What I really want to see out of this game is more rebounding out of the 4 & 5 spots. You would think that those guys would be embarassed by having their point guard out rebound them. Bull was giving us a lot of RBs from the 3 spot. Mahoney does his thing, but the rest of them need to step up and get it done. It's all about heart.

Our bigs have given up career highs to Grim & now Carter this year. Hartsock is better than both. Coaches will need to some how figure out a way to contain Hartsock, Davies, and now Austin from having a huge night around the basket.

I think this will also be a great night for Dame. Obviously he can score and they know that, so a little drive and dish? Get some other guys going early by creating easy open looks to get their shots going. The stat line said he had 4 assists against sjsu but mook missed that dunk :ohno: and scotty missed two open threes. So if those go in, Dame has 7 assist to his credit along with the 41 points and 8 boards. I think this game will be a great opportunity for us.

Scoring inside, we will get our outside points, but we need more inside production, I will say it more and more, and now with K-Bull going down we need an even bigger inside presence especially in the rebounding department.

Inside scoring and defense is the key to a victory in Provo.

In my opinion, the keys to a W in Provo would be...

1. Solid defensive effort. Weber will, in all likelihood, play a man to man defense for the majority of the game. BYU can play inside and out. There biggest offensive weakeness is their ability to drive. Their strength is their passing. If their outside shots aren't falling they depend enormously on their bigs. Tres, Hajek, Fulton, Mook, and the Mahone need to bring it. They are a lot bigger than us, but Weber is quicker. Beat them in transition and create TOs.

2. Weber has to play smart. Take good shots, work the offensive schemes, and be patient. The Cats have to play in control. Limit the number of TOs and play clean on the offensive side. Set the pace of the game.

3. Hit open threes. Bull, Bam, and Fulton all missed a number of open looks, that WILL start to fall. I'm hoping this is the game that they do start to fall. Bam can't stay cold forever!! I have a feeling he is going to start connecting on Wednesday.

4. USE our speed!! BYU isn't nearly as quick as the Cats. That is how the Ags beat the Cougars. They used their speed. BYU hasn't played anyone that is as quick and can shoot as well as the Cats. BYU has done fairly well guarding the perimeter against teams that aren't that quick (Oregon is the most talented team they have faced, but not the best team, that is USU. USU isn't as talented as Oregon, but they played team ball.). Weber must use their quickness.

5. Don't let their guards play well. Yes, Hartsock and Davies will get theirs, but Zylstra, and Winder must be held to nothing. Make them play bad.

8-5 isn't an easy situation. I'm hoping for the best.

Good luck Weber! This is one Aggie fan that would like to see you beat BYU and beat em good. Beating BYU especially in Provo is never easy, because to be a ref in the western US it is a requirement that you are a BYU fan. At least it sure seems that way.

I know your team is good enough it is the refs that will give you the most trouble, especially if it is a close game at the end.

If they double on Lillard, which it sounds like Rose is going to do, can BamBAm get open and shoot with confidence? I have decided that Bam needs to score 20+ and Lillard is going to have to score 30+ for a WSU win (kinda like Boyette did, twice against byu.)I think that we might need J-Rich to put in about 6-10 points as well. I love our chances though. From down low, we are going to need 20+ points combined from our bigs, Tres, Fulton, Mahoney and Frank. I think that if we can score 70 points or more and keep them under 70, we have a good chance at winning. Without Bull, we need our guards to contribute that much more. Our bigs need to have a big night, limiting TO's, rebounding and playing solid, solid defense down low. No LAZY fouls! We need good minutes out of the 4 and 5 spots.

Back Court needs to score 40-50 points with our Front Court scoring 20+ points= 70+points.
If the above proves correct, I predict we win by the score of 75-69 WSU  :-D :-D
If the above does not happen, I predict we lose by the score of 85-68 byu. :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

Other interests. Any one have any news on Collinsworth for byu? Will you play tomorrow? I hear that he is going under the knife, but I haven't heard when. This might make things equal with Bull not playing. Who is going to defend Davies and Abouo? I think Frank goes on Abouo and Mahoney on Davies (no pun intended :bad: )

Will we be seeing Wheelright? Where in the mix will he play and on which rotations?

Thats how I see it. Also, anyone know where they are putting the WSU fans going down, in which section?

with Bull out, Mahoney will have to step up big time with the extended minutes he'll get. He's no newb, and a tough SOB, so I have all the confidence that he will. Scottie B needs to start getting some good looks and I think the rest will come together with Damian running the point.
