I know I'm just really down from last night's game, but no player has frustrated me this much since Sessions. Sure, every third or fourth game, his wreckless style of play pays off and his little tear-drop shots fall, but overall, I'm just not impressed with Gittens. It's a shame, because defensively, he's a very sound player, but he continues to make bad decision after bad decision. Missing those FTs at the end of last night's game was just icing on the case for a bad, bad season for him. I know Hunter plays the point, but I'd love to see him develop a little confidence in his shot and phase Richaud out of the starting lineup next season. We talk a lot about how this team lacks discipline, but Hunter was one of the few bright spots in that regard. A prime example of why youth is not an excuse.SWeberCat02 said:GIttens pulled a Sessions 2.0. Just wondering, has Rahe ever heard of a 2 for 1 at the end of games?
Tough loss! The team fought hard and almost pulled off a huge upset and I'm encouraged that they tried to get the win. I'm a little shocked with the comments this morning! Gittens did miss two free throws, but as a team they played a great game. It wasn't coaching..... It wasn't that players didn't show up and compete..... They lost a heartbreaker! The refs were horrible, but it wasn't about winning for Montana...... They were bad both ways! They just were not the types of refs that can handle a game of that magnitude! I'm not sure they could've handled a high school game.hawkssb04 said:I know I'm just really down from last night's game, but no player has frustrated me this much since Sessions. In no way should they have called that foul on Bolomboy at the end of regulation, Gregory flopped so bad it was ridiculous, you have players bowling each other over for a loose ball all over the floor and they call that? Regardless, Gittens makes one free throw and Montana and the punk Gregory are done.
Leave it to Weber to lose it that way.
Gittens played his A$$ of in this game. His defense was outstanding most of the season.SWeberCat02 said:GIttens pulled a Sessions 2.0. Just wondering, has Rahe ever heard of a 2 for 1 at the end of games?

I hate Gregory, too. I remember hating him all the way back to when he was a redshirt freshman, seeing his childish antics on the bench.talhadfoursteals said:WILDCAT said:Keys to beating Montana………………..MAKE YOUR FREAKING FREETHROWS

Wildcat...you've been missed. Your hatred for Gregory is touching. I can't stand that doosh and his pal Wiener.
Tal, I think you give way too much credit to the refs by implying the conference attempted to assure a Montana win. Conspiracy theories like these make me laugh, because history has proven the Big Sky refs are simply incompetent. Certainly not competent enough to strategically execute a screw job.talhadfoursteals said:So the game is on demand. We can all go back and watch it. What troubles me most is that Gregory travels with the ball before the scrum for the loose ball happens. That was the 6th or 7th no call that was a travel on the Griz last night, by the way. No matter, that last foul on Bolomboy was not a foul. Jon Stigliano...He should not be making that call at the end of a game. Loose ball seconds clicking off, that is a no call. Nobody has possession Gregory is lying on the floor and miraculously a blocking foul is called. Giving Montana a chance to tie the game. How on earth can there be a blocking foul when nobody has possession and Gregory is lying on the floor?
Once again the short bald ref...Jon Stigliano...
It seemed to me that the conference was doing everything in its power last night to assure a Montana win. Would be nice if Weber got that type of favoritism at the Dee.
To lose by 3 in OT when the Cats were playing 5 on 8. That is impressive stuff.

Mycats said:I just notice that we whine ALOT! We whine an awful lot! We would've complained about Michael Jordan if he came to Weber! I had no idea that the grassy knoll was in Montana..... Not Dallas.
The BSC is one of the most inept conferences in the country. Do we actually beleive they could pull off a conspiracy? We lost in a great game! Gittens played like a mad man on defense. On offense he needs to be more under control! He's been a man on the free throw line all season! He missed two free throws, but in OT Montana put Bruenig to work and like all big men he kicked our butt! Rahe could've move Bolomboy over to Bruenig, but fouls were an issue. The refs sucked, but they sucked on calls for Weber too!

Agree 100%. One of my biggest problems with the refs in the Big Sky is the inconsistency too. 5 min stretch and they'll call someone for looking at another player wrong and believe every flop. Next 5 min stretch people could be stabbing each other with shivs and they wont blow the whistle. Sometimes it occurs for one team and not the other, then switches...sometimes it doesn't switch and you end up with a UNC vs NAU type game from 2010-2011. Consistency would be nice...and I'd much prefer them allow things get more physical and be a little better at not believing flops.
I think the whistle-happy crews actually hurt the Big Sky as a whole, because when we get into games against big time programs they are going to be VERY physical all the time (their refs generally let things get physical). So our teams aren't going to be used to that and expect fouls when none are coming.
But...what can ya do? Frustrating, but all of our teams have to put up with the same refs and inconsistencies...and of course occasional completely lopsided games. Still think the worst I EVER saw was NAU vs UNC back in the 2010-2011 season. Felt so bad for NAU after that one.

:+1: In the refs defense, there were a lot of new guys this season and the inexperience showed. Even when they had a more experienced ref in the crew, the more experienced guy would not step in and help when the less experienced guys were blowing it. Maybe the less experienced guys should be given a red flag instead of a whistle. They could wave a flag if the thought they saw something and the lead official could blow the whistle if he thought it was needed, or just choose to ignore the flag and let play continue. It works in soccer. It might be worth a try in basketball. There would be less fouls called, and that is a good thing.
