Hey Marty, I found your secret decoder ring in my box of Cracker Jacks.
@Gilbert.points - welcome to the forum, I would like to respond to your coherent post.
Some thoughts on Kieran:
GreenGiant hits it on the head that the QB play isn't the reason we've lost games. With the exception of UW (still was impressive) and maybe NAU, McDonagh and the offense has put this team in position to win. Your concerns about his intermediate passing skills could be valid, but do you see this team run very many of those? His lack of intermediate passes may have to do with the plays being called. Not to mention, he has a new crop of receivers every week due to injuries and line up shuffles. Lack of familiarity means drops, breakdowns in communication, and even interceptions. Let's remember he's only a true freshman. This emphasis on his seven interceptions seem to be silly considering Yost has 7, Denarius has 6, and Sorensen has 8. These are the only three quarterbacks averaging more passing yards a game than him, and I don't think any of them are true freshman.
Thoughts on Collin Ramirez and the QB situation in general:
NO RESPECTABLE PROGRAM HAS DUELING QUARTERBACKS. It keeps the defense guessing, but also it keeps your teammates guessing and stunts the chemistry and trust that develops between a quarterback and the offense/team. The fact of the matter is that the QB position was wide open for PSU coming into the year. They had as many as 6 guys vying for the starting role. If Ramirez is as can't miss as you say, how come he didn't make an impression in spring practices or fall camp? He was given every opportunity to seize the position. I am tired of hearing this "he broke Aaron Rodgers' record at the JUCO level." Cool, but Rodgers went to play at CAL, and Ramirez came to an FCS school. Breaking records at a JUCO doesn't guarantee success at the next level whether it be FCS or FBS and it certainly doesn't mean he's entitled to start or even get playing time (ask Padron at EWU). The coaches play who they think gives the team the best chance to win. We are not there at every practice to see these guys compete. Practice, film, how you prepare… that's where playing time is earned. There's no politics about it, a kid set to greyshirt (McDonagh) came in and earned the spot because the coaches and the team believe he is their best shot win, and I will have to take them at their word because they see everything... I just watch on Saturdays.
PS. Why all this negativity on KM? I thought he won BSC player of the week and national freshman of the week? Seems like a random time to question our QB position.
