Kings considering move to Anaheim. Hornet implications?

So if the Kings go, that leaves a massive void in the Sacramento sports scene. So would the Hornets be able to fill the void, at least a little? If the department actually put some effort into marketing, the Hornets could start drawing in sports fans with no NBA franchise to turn to. I think the Hornets could easily throw an early season tourney at Arco/Power Balance/WTF Arena and draw fairly well provided they did the necessary promotion for it.

Any thoughts?

Local press will switch to covering the Bay Area even more. Nothing will change.

It is about money. The media markets cover an entity that will draw maximum exposure, covering an additional 600 fans who can watch a game in the gym doesnt sell alot of newspapers or gets people to 'tune in'.

Until a 5-6,000 seat arena is built and we fill it with 2-3,000 people regularly, nothing will change in terms of more coverage and following by the average sports fan.

Kings leaving is one of my hopes though. If nothing more than to get rid of that hag Ailene Voisen or whatever it's name is. If she didnt have the name Ailene I would wonder if she was really a woman looking at her picture.

This is old news. I have no clue why ESPN is covering it now. There are several problems with such a move, not the least of which would be territorial rights fees due to the Lake Show and the Clippers and a fee to break the lease at Power Balance Pavilion. All told, this move would cost the Kings more than it's worth.

Its news cause the March 1st deadline is right around the corner. As for the lease, the Maloofs own the arena so I think they can get around the fee. You may be right about the territorial fees though. I'm sure Staple's tenants won't be too happy at the prospect of another NBA team in the area.

The Kins should also keep THIS in mind: if anything goes wrong with Power Balace Pavilion, there's always the Spanos Center. The seating is limited, but it's otherwise a decent place. If anything happens to the Pond, the only alternative in the area is the ACC, where the Big West has their conference tournament. It's almost as bad as The Nest....

CBS-13 is reporting that if the Kings go, the next resident of Power Balance Pavilion might be the Sacramento Zoo. Explanation at 10....

:+1:

A couple callers to the Grant Napear sports talk show this week tried to imply to Grant that maybe hoop fans would support Sac State's team more if the Kings left or maybe the Hornets could also play games at a new arena along with the Kings if they stayed and Grant just "blasted" the Hornets.

He gets real ticked off when anyone mentions Sac State sports in the same sentence as his Kings. In one response, he was being facetious but Napear told the caller, yeah you go watch Sac State play and then go around the corner and watch some 2nd graders too! They've got a lousy program (as if the Kings don't - I think he forgot about how bad they are). He also said that no one cares about Sac State basketball; what do they get 200 fans watching them? He really blows the Hornets out of the water whenever he can.

The little red headed hermaphrodite will soon be out of a job, thank goodness.
Just like RE Graswich, another loser.

Whatever happened to Graswich? He used to have an occasional segment on CBS-13, but even that's gone. Not that I ever liked his pieces. They were a bit too on the Andy Rooney side, and not even as good as Rooney.

I'm also disappointed that Brandi Hitt left 13, but that's a bit OT.

Well, now the Hornets are the only game in town. Hopefully the athletic department friggin realizes this and starts going after the general public. It would be nice to see them start an aggressive advertising campaign.

How bout: Our stadium isn't state-of-the-art, our arena isn't that big, our baseball team usually comes in last, but at least we aren't going anywhere!

Okay, I admit it needs some work...
