How long has it been since Weber State was dead last in BSC standings? Guess it's all a part of HC Duft's plan to rise & peak later on at the "right time"? Well, there's no way but up now for the Wildcats, so standby fans, it's all a long term project...last place just like the Utah Jazz. Personally, very disappointed & embarrassed even sad. Not apologetic either, whether it's coaching or player's fault, this is unacceptable for a program that has such a stellar past at least in conference!

I would love to hear Olds opinion on all that is going on with this team? It always seems when things aren’t going well he hides until something positive starts to develop. Sounds like a fair weather fan to me? Can’t be a true fan to not show some constructive criticism at the least

Honestly, I lay most of the blame at the attitude/approach of the coach. When you basically dismiss non-conference games and accept losses before the game starts against bigger programs, it creates apathy and a losing mentality. This is why the Wildcats consistently falter down the stretch of games regardless of whether they use a deep bench or not.

The attitudes of players isn’t what it used to be as well. Watching white Urkel from UVU trash talking the Wildcats and watching them just take it is tough. Old Wildcat players would knock that player down hard on his ass and put him in his place.

The Wildcats need a coach who at the very least has a better mentality and gets players to play scrappy and believe in themselves.

Last place in the Big Sky…can’t be tolerated. I think this team very well could finish last at best one rung or two rungs up. I think Duft, Mental, and Crompton all have to be shown the door. I’ve never seen such apathy before. Even if the Wildcats finished last, I’d half expect Crompton to give Duft a one-year extension.

I would think that the white Urkel is the kid who played at Davis High School. I think I am okay trash talking because the trash talking started with Duft about a year ago saying that the white Urkel was the worst player in Utah and college. I agree with your assessment of the situation but I do believe that we need to get local white Urkel players in our program that play like he does for UVU. My assessment also is Duft has two clown as assistants and I am not talking about Coach Russell and his father in law. I am talking about the other two. If I was a player and those two were giving me workouts then I would have a hard time listening to them. Those two do not have any knowledge about basketball. And get rid of the AD and head football coach as well because your assessment of apathy is right on point.

Well stated Chex!!!

Thursday’s game started 0-12 before we called a timeout. 0-12! Tells you all you need to know about the players morale to allow Portland to go up 12 right out of the gate. Man, we need some Bobby Knight, we could sure use some chair throwing right about now.

I think it should be noted that Portland State was Jorge Ruiz scout assignment and like MP Wildcat said you can’t have amateur coaches on your bench and expect to win. I don’t want to judge someone’s background or situation but it is a fact that he is not in the greatest shape, what experiences or knowledge can a player learn from someone like that who never played a single sport at the same competitive level?

Didn’t know where the player was from, but just surprised players would just take it and get shown up on their home floor. Wildcats used to have bruisers/scrappers on defense that wouldn’t put up with that. Maybe those days are gone in college athletics and 18-24 years-old kids with a “what can you do for me because it’s all about me” mentality is just going to be the norm.

I’m with you about getting more local kids who have the talent and competitive spirit…it would go a long way and probably put a few more butts in the seats as well. I miss scrappy players who would passionately defend and rebound. I dare say those type of players with a proper coaching attitude wouldn’t be 7-13 with a 1-5 conference record.

I keep hearing how much talent we have with players, and yet they consistently shoot about 20% from the 3 and keep chucking them up and get out rebounded consistently.

I totally agree with you. I too remember the days when there was toughness. The three point is more impressive than the dunk in the eyes of these kids or they all had poor math teachers who did not teach them about percentages.
