Last Week - BSC regular

I was thinking today that this should have been a far better year in the Big Sky. We all know how young our team is, and frankly little changes next year. Our team will still be young. It is looking more and more likely that two of our starters will be underclassmen, two juniors, and a lone senior.

Since Weber is young, I was looking at the other teams in the Sky. There are a lot of senior laden teams. Most importantly, a lot of those teams are heavily guided by their seniors. If you look at the top teams in the conference one can automatically see patterns emerging dealing with production. Not necessarily points, but the amount of production a team is getting from its seniors. For instances, Sac State has four seniors on this years team. Two are highly productive and between buckets scored and assists, Sacs Seniors probably account for around 75% of the offensive production. Cody Demps, Nick Hornsby and Eric Stuteville are the only non seniors at Sac that really produce for the Hornets. I'm not really sure if they are technically the highest, but I'm sure they are close. It would be interesting to see which teams are going to be losing the most after this season. Just interesting stuff to examine and see where the state of the Sky will be next year.

Our situation is similar to the situation you guys faced after last year with one exception....Demps can and has played the point and has been used as the main guard to bring the ball up court this year and last. Otherwise we face a similar problem that you faced this year. Have to wait and see what transpires in '15 and '16....

I think we're buying into Rahe's game!
I really don't think it matters what year you're in...... What matters is can you play Basketball! If you look at the great D1 teams this year they're not Senior heavy. They have players that can play and coaches that can coach! If you're good enough to be on the court, your attitude has got to be that you're ready to contribute to the team no matter what your class your in. I agree that in football, it might be physically tough on a player, but in Basketball players come in ready to go! I don't think the Weber State team was too young to perform at a high level! I think our Coaches didn't do a great job in recruiting the players we needed, developing the players we have and putting them in the best position for them to win! Case closed! Have Randy call Coach k and say we're having a tough year because we're not starting any seniors. Neither is Duke and neither Is Kentucky. Then you hear that they're elite schools, but they play in tough conferences. If they can win with youth in the ACC and SEC...Why can't Weber in the Big Sky? COACHING!

AMEN!

I'm tired of the we're too young crap! Just play ball at your talent level and we'll be fine! I'm embarrassed that we continue to use that excuse. Next year we'll have one true Senior and two JC seniors. Are we going to have to hear the same crap next year? Does anyone stop and ask yourself why we only have one Senior this year?

Quit the excuses..... We failed to execute this year! Stand on a podium and say this years performance is unacceptable and does not meet the standards that we set at Weber State. That would be impressive, not that we're to young crap! Weber State needs to step up to the plate and tell everyone that even with 5 freshman playing this year would not meet our standards. I'd at least respect that comment.

Mid, I agree with you to a point. But have to respectfully disagree. There is a huge difference between Weber State of the Big Sky and any SEC team, not just the top program Kentucky. Weber does have a lot to offer academic programs, facilities, and player development but the Cats, from what I know, have never been recruiting the same calibre of kids. Kentucky gets automatic NBA sweepstake players and Weber gets good Double A Euro players and the occasional NBA Development player, after four years in the program. Our leagues freshmen need development and a few years to get things on track. Eastern was terrible two years ago, didn't make the tourny last year and is a game away from hosting this season. Sac has been working toward this moment ever since Katz got hired. It has taken Garrity four years to get to this point. Fact is mid majors and low majors have to develop programs and rebuild ever so often. Not an apologist just being practical. I hate it! But it is what it is. Yes I expected more but it didn't happen. Let's hope for a win and a chance to keep playing this season tonight and hope for better next year.

What a night! SUU beats Sacramento St 69-65...So after all is said & done for Thurs...3 way tie for 1st place...three way tie for 6-7-8 with SUU still breathing at one game behind PSU, Idaho & Weber St. Saturday night looms large for the final standings!

Sac still controls their own destiny, but they missed a prime opportunity tonight. SUU is way better than they were last year. The whole league is. The distance, ability wise, is not that great from the top to the bottom. Eastern Washington is coming in Saturday, after having just slipped by ISU in Pokey, a first place/last place matchup. We are having a down year and yet, if we play like we did tonight, can beat these guys. I don't think that any games will be gimmies in the tournament this year, no matter where it is played.

I am encouraged for the BSC and for our chances this year and next. :thumb: :thumb:

Any team could win the tournament. If it is in Missoula, I think Montana has a good shot. I am not sure how much the home court will help the other 3 teams with a chance to host. Eastern is not playing well. I really hope that we can take it to them tomorrow night.

Sacramento St blew their best chance to host last night...play at NAU 2pm Mtn. Sat (a place with ALTITUDE!). So we will know by Wildcats game time if the tourney is likely in Sacramento or big bad Missoula! Sure, Eastern Washingon has a chance (IF THEY BEAT WILDCATS :ohno:), but Grizzlies face an easier task (?) against MSU (although rivalries can be :yikes: ). Montana fans surely are expecting a win & cheering for Wildcats & Lumberjacks and saying "see you in Missoula"?? :-(

Nothing would please me more than to ruin Montana's season. :thumb:

Despite Wildcat's OT loss to Eagles, Wildcats are in tourney as 8th seed vs. Montana (1st seed) next Thurs at Missoula. Eastern Washington S/B 2 seed & Sacramento St 3 seed. BSC tourney time in Missoula and Weber St. must play the hosts now...Good Luck!! Wildcats will need it.

Season ended like it started! Blowing a 18+ points lead in the 2nd half.

Tough season, but we are STILL alive!

Well, I believe last night's loss was a microcosm of the season. Our guys played with a lot of fire, which has been refreshing to see in these past few games, but Randy's refusal to make adjustments is killing this team. Yes, they are young. Real young. But that's no excuse for never being able to break the full court press, zero production in the paint and leaving players on the floor who are clearly struggling (I.e. Richardson after his fifth turnover in seemingly no time). You can tell Randy has abandoned any hope of pounding it inside, as Joel appears to have been given the green light to shoot from anywhere. Fortunately, he's knocking down a high percentage of those 20-foot jumpers. Go ahead and plan on next week's tourney game against Montana being our last one. We simply have an inability to beat the Grizzlies there. Call it a complex if you will. I'm not completely without hope, though. We return virtually the entire team, and can really only go up from here. I'll give Randy a pass on this season. I think he's earned one, but what happens next year will be crucial in determining the direction he's taking this program.

That might have been the worst officiated game I have seend at the Dee. The officials were terrible. I can't say it was the reason why we lost but it was tough playing 5 on 8. The critical missed call when Golden was hit on the arm shooting a 3 late in the game was a joke. Weber played well but didn't make 1 more play needed.
