Les Schwab Bowl

Just a few observations:

With regard to the players (eight in all) that have committed to the Viks from this group of All Stars, in my opinion a number of them could have an opportunity to contribute early in their tenure with PSU. And they all displayed the skills to play at the next level.

Aiden Wilde QB, (game MVP) is very much in the mold of Conner Kavanaugh (who as you remember was also the Les Schwab game MVP). Keeps his composure under duress (had to, about 30% of his snaps were either above his head or snapped between himself and his RB, making for very awkward transitions into plays or substantially broken plays). He is very mobile (maybe not quite as shifty as Conner was, but looks a little stronger) and after a shaky start found his rhythm in the passing game. It will really be fun to watch his play in the Pistol.

Sione Taumoe'anga Jr. DL, is going to be a beast on the line (chosen as one of the two Linemen of the game). Low center of gravity and very strong. He was double teamed most of the game and still dominated, getting to the QB and disrupting a lot of plays. Lining up adjacent to him was his teammate from Roosevelt Semise Kofe, who also displayed an aggression that obviously earned him All State honors. This is a tandem that is going to raise the hairs on the back of the necks of the rest of the BSC. They will be leaving soon for their Latter Day Saints Mission so we will have to look forward to their return. It just so happens that the player chosen as the South team's lineman of the game was also a Viking commit, Hunter Hermansen, from North Medford. While he may be a little small to play OL at the Div. I level, he certainly shows the agility, strength and speed to earn DL opportunities.

A.J. Schlatter, TE/LB, played predominantly at the linebacker position and was Very sound. He's a player with size (6-2 or 6-3, 205+lbs) who can fly, reads the play very well, and hits hard. I believe he is going to have a stellar career as a Viking. Perry Groves from McNary was another LB that really has a nose for the ball, can really lay it on, and like A.J. is really good sized (6-3, 220). Josh Brown ,TE/DE from Sunset, has great hands, very mobile, and even greater size (6-6, 245). A perfect fit as TE in Nigel's system.

I'm sorry to admit that I failed to observe the play of Garrett Stauffer, OL from Barlow. Sometimes the OL, which is really the linchpin in any scheme, is difficult to observe, especially when there are so many turnovers and broken plays. I can only ascertain that if Garrett is as sound as the rest of these recruits the Viks have pulled out a really decent class from the State of Oregon.

Of the 22 players committed to moving on to Div I schools, PSU garnished 8, OSU 6 (not all playing football), UO 4 (not all playing football), Montana 1, E. Washington 1, Wyoming 1, and Utah St. 2.

Thanks for the run down, Scooter. Western Oregon picked up quite a few of the players too - 6? And hey, George Fox got one or two to start their opening play! Big Sky picked up two that I could see, one to Montana and one to Eastern Washington. We seem to be specializing in the smaller quarterbacks. For the pistol, no doubt. Aidin scored on runs, not passes (he threw two interceptions in a turnover themed game).

Hey Scooter, thanks for the break down. Well done!

Ditto! At vacation on the Oregon coast, so I couldn't attend the game. Glad to see the Portland State signees do so well in the game. Go Viks!
