Let's get ready to RUMBLE!!!! EWU @ Cal Poly

I like Cal Poly, and I'm not even quite sure why. IMO, they were the "Big Get" when the conference expanded. I don't see the other schools as adding the stature Cal Poly has. Plus, and this post is evidence of it, their fans seem to be pretty cool.

Actually, I do know why I like Cal Poly.... Coach Walsh is a great guy. I have some great stories about a night I went out in Portland with that guy; but I doubt I can remember all of what happened. Good stuff.

I agree with you. I like Cal Poly also, but I know why. I grew up on the Central Coast. I'm also a Rams fan and the Rams had a TE from Poly (Pete Holohan). They are my second team in the Big Sky. Always rooting for them to do well, unless it gets in the way of EWU :D . And yes their fans are pretty cool, realistic and know their stuff. Tri-tip sandwiches are not the same in Spokane. All that being said.......Get 'em Eags!!

Cal Poly had another TE that played a lot of years with the Rams, Damone Johnson.

Cal Poly has not played with TE in their offense for at least 10 years until this season. We had our first reception by a TE in over a decade last week against Sac State and it went for a 14 yard TD. We now have three on the roster, but as you can see they are not used much in the passing game.

Should be a nice weekend on the Central Coast. Hoping the game is as good as the weather. DVR'd the EWU/MSU game and finally got a chance to watch it. Let's just say that that what I thought would be a tough game looks to be even tougher. VA is unreal. My only hope is Cal Poly's strength is their defense and we have an offense when working well can keep the other team's offense on the sideline for long periods. It better be working well or we will be in for a long day.

Funny, Root had the replay of MSU EWU on last night and I was thinking the same thing. Vernon Adams is an absolute beast. Over the past few years I keep thinking....when that guy at EWU graduates they will come back to the pack...and every year they somehow are able to find another assassin at QB, RB WR or all three.

I will say that I think Cal Poly's defense will be a greater challenge than MSU's but there is no denying how good EWU's offense is.

For those paying attention,Tim Walsh said he still does not know who will start at QB for Cal Poly. Apparently Chris Brown sprained an ankle last week against Sac St and did not practice yesterday. If Brown can't go it sounds like Dano Graves will get the start but Walsh even mentioned Tanner Trosin. Who Knows...My two cents....Cal Poly is best when Chris Brown is at QB...Slostang may disagree ;)

I thought Brown looked REALLY good in the couple of games that I was able to watch him. Think it may have been PSU, and maybe Fresno? Anyway, I will agree that CP's defense should be a bigger challenge than MSU or even UM. You guys always seem to have a lot of talent there. It'll be a challenge for sure for our guys, but I guess we'll see what happens.

One question for the CP guys: No smack intended - but WTF happened in the Yale game? I thought for sure you'd beat them by 2-3 TD's.

I don't know...my son says the same thing..."Dad what the H#!& happend against Yale?"

They played like crap

Yale is better than many folks think..better than more than a few Big Sky teams in my opinion

Their RB (cant remember his name ...because it still hurts) ate our defense up.

We turned the ball over more times than I can remember......its all a very bad dream. My son just kept saying "Dad they are the worst team on NCAA football for Xbox"

I'm hoping to make a trip to SLO at some point. I've always thought it looked like a pretty nice place. Any updates from practice this week? Vic?

Congrats to the Eagles for all their success this year! (Hopefully ends this weekend  )

Yes, Brown looked good against Fresno, and Sac. He looked good against Colorado State as well, except for his passing game which looked comical at times. Against Sac, he seemed to have found his passing game. Graves is my current favorite, but I'm not sure if he's fully recovered from his own injury.

As for Yale.... Yes, they're better than people think, but they still should have been a blowout for us. Our offense in particular just came out DEAD FLAT in that game! You could sense the total lack of "IT" on the field. We would have lost to a decent JC team that day.

Really sad thing is that, and anyone who watched the Montana and/or NAU games knows, we should be 6-0 right now in the BSC, and this game should be for the title!!! EWU looks solid, and might just go undefeated in the BSC this year, but this game should be for all the marbles. Real heartbreaker for our kids.

I have watched a lot of a Cal Poly games and I do not ever remember a game like this. First I really think our team thought it would be a walk in the park and it was anything but. It was Yale's Super Bowl and they played like it. We had 5 fumbles with two lost and two picks that stalled a lot of our offensive drives. They blocked a punt that and turned it into points. They ran a fake FG and scored a TD. We also lost our cool in the second half (which is not like a Cal Poly team) and committed 3 personal fouls two of which extended drives in which they ended up scoring on when defense had held them on third and long. No disrespect to Yale because they certainly were the better team that day and a good team, but if we played them again I feel confident we would win by at least a couple of TDs.

Some of those Ivy League schools are probably better than most people would think. After all, they do recruit on a national level whereas most teams at our level are recruiting mostly regionally. They have some good players.

Hope you all have a great time in SLO....I think it will be a great game. I wish I could make the drive up from San Diego, thankfully I'll be able to watch the Root broadcast.

Anybody remember the OT game from a few years ago? EWU v Cal Poly has some good recent history

Go Poly!

Yeah, that was a gut wrencher, especially since I was at work and couldn't watch it, only listened to it on the radio with an earbud in my ear while working. I think I aged a year that night.
I don't know that I have ever seen this before... if I have, I don't remember.

Hey Ranger, Yale has had some great recruiting the past two-three years. They got Egu last year. Several linemen that were easy FCS/D1 talent as well. Doing a nice job of pulling West coast talent.

ESPN 2013 list includes players from Brophy (top AZ team), Alpharetta, GA (good team), De LaSalle CA. etc.

I know their center and WR were both offered by Cal Poly. Both looked like they would have looked great wearing a Cal Poly uniform. They also had some kids with FBS offers that chose an Ivy League education. The one thing I think they may lack is depth, but they definitely had some talented players on their roster.
