Linebackers

To All,
As of this morning, the new roster has not been posted. Will check today with Dave Cook at Practice. Don't know what the Review has written. Jabari Wilson, Running Back, and the Quarter Backs are looking very Good. We have had many High School individuals at the practice last week, due to the Easter vacation for most of them. These young men are growing Bigger than when I was growing up. Maybe it was from the "good living" in Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands ;) ;) ;). Left when I was 19 years old. We had a young man from California, his dad said he was at numerous schools, and he really love what he saw at EWU. He said he is a QB, didn't get the High School he came in from. Vic Wallace

To All,
Good News: Yesterday Jake Gall came to practice with a big smile on his face, knee with a brace on it. He stated there was no tear, just sprained. So he will not practice for approximately 2 weeks per doctor. We lost two Players from the team #86 WR Brad Wallace fm Lacey, WA, and #96 DL Patiole Pesefea. Don't know why Brad quit, Pesefea had to many injuries. If any of you are interested, Women VB Team will scrimmage today at 4:30p. against WSU, in the upper gym. That is next to the Dance Studio. Hope to see a great crowd tomorrow. Half Scrimmage about 10:00 a.m., then track meet about noon against Montana, Idaho, etc. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

I'm hearing great reports on the team from my coaching friends up there. The few positions that are not excelling are places we hit hard with 2015 recruiting and a few special players in the incoming class will provide quality depth if things go as planned at those positions. As I've said, don't be surprised to see 2015 recruits contributing this year. Remember too, we got some kids that had multiple offers to "bigger" schools. It's all going to come together nicely and I can't wait for July.

If anyone can find a spring roster, or links to practice clips (even short ones) I'd appreciate you posting them.

GROUND&POUND,
I am leaving as much as I can to Jim Allen (SR) to write about out team. I am so impressed with the LB we have on the field. i.e. We know what class Jake Gall, and Miquiyah Zamora is in by themselves. #44 John Kreifles, #41 Kurt Calhoun,#50 Alex Kacmarcik. #52, Mac McLachian. The team is hitting like there is no tomorrow. The DB, Dl are all doing their jobs also. I get kind of worried for the injuries that can come, and then we are screwed. We have some great Players are coming in later this year, after June Graduation, that will really fill in. The Ol will be tough, Quarter Backs are getting better each practice. I've seen some of the Recruits for 2015, at Practices, they are some big young men, they can't seem to wait for June Graduation. There are some Walk Ons' on the field, that is really working very hard for positions. It is supposed to be kind of rainy, cold and windy today. Don't forget, there is a Track Meet after the Scrimmage/Practice today. Great Events. Vic Wallace

GROUND&POUND,
Why don't you send an email to Dave Cook, and see if he could send you what he has. He has one by positions only, and the Recruits for 2014/2015. I am not computer smart, ;) ;) ;) or I could have tried. [email protected]. Vic Wallace

From reports I've been reading up on regarding spring ball and people I've talked to Spring Ball has been revealing (which I understand isn't REAL football - but nonetheless can help in deciding things). I expect to see K. Williams in the DL rotation, or maybe even a standup DE as an Edge player. I think Ketner Kupp will be on the field as an LB at times, and one of my favorite newcomers, SS/FS Inos will find some time too. These guys, along with the addition of #77 (moved over from the OL) on the DL are going to compliment what we already have. We are going to be smaller this year, but we are also going to be much faster and smarter. I think our Defense has more playmakers and I expect us to be better for it.

Lastly, I know hearing a starting LB is only 210 pounds is a bit on the smaller side, but if that same player is fast and can get that weight up around 220 over the summer (only 10 pounds) I don't think anyone would think much at all. Our training staff is more than capable of putting some weight on our players and I expect to hear those players that are on the lighter side will put on 10 pounds of muscle by Oregon week.

We are doing it the right way. We have some great quickness on our roster and the muscle will come.

JC Sherritt - 5'9" 220 as a senior and he seemed to do pretty well!

Exactly what I was going to say. At our level, 220 pound linebackers can get the job done very well if they have the right instincts.

I think there's a good shot that a handful of true freshman will play. There's some guys in that group that will probably be game ready coming out of fall camp and who are too talented to keep off the field.

My guess is it will be this group:
Defense:
(In early and often) LB Kupp, SS/FS Inos, DE K. Williams
(Develop into it later) CB/FS Dorton

Offense:
(in early and often) C McGuire, RB M. Williams
(Develop into it later) (OG) PuaPuaga (OT) Taylor

Just a guess based on film and the limited info I have on the players. I think we could have 2 Frosh in the starting rotation this year very early.

G&P,
I have seen this young man ever since he came out to practice. He seems very strong, and is starting to move the OL out of his way. Just think he just turned 18 years old last week, and is going to get better. Even if Jake Rodgers didn't play on the DL, Keenan is wearing #65 on the DL. Last week I saw him when they went one on one, he was pushed around a few times, once he got the hang of it, he was moving all OL when called upon. His dad is out there every day. He is so happy his son chose EWU. He had many opportunities to go to Bigger Universities, we are fortunate to have gotten Keenan Williams. Didn't stay very long for yesterdays practice, to windy and cold. Weather is supposed to get better all this week. Good morning. Vic Wallace

I'll be out there soon! GO EAGS

Lucky,
On the 2014 Recruit List, I noticed one individual I haven't seen or heard of. Owen Taylor, OL, from Fox Island, WA. Will have to do some checking. All others on the list are here and really playing like they have been here for a while. Each year I have to change which is the "Best Recruiting Class". That is a nice problem for anyone to have. In case you haven't heard, we are down 1 Quarter Back, to 3, he wants to be starting. Wish him the best of luck. He will find his playing ways somewhere else if he so desires. I will let Jim Allen (SR) mention who the individual is. Maybe some of you already know. Practice today at 4 p.m. So far we are very fortunate, no serious injuries, hope it continues. Vic Wallace

Of all the young linebackers, Kamarcik looked the most promising to me. He does need to put on about 15-20 pounds though.
