Good story on Coach Z and his success at CWU, from the Ellensburg paper:

That is a good article.

So, should ISU extend an automatic 3 year contract extension in your opinion? I am asking this honestly.
For those of you that are inside the program--what makes Coach Z the man to lead ISU to the top. We as fans typically only see the wins and losses. What is different between Zamberlin and the folks before him--what is happening now that should make Bengal fans patient and giddy with excitement.

Skippy, VOTB and ISUSID, please create some excitement for us with your keyboard.

Thanks in advance.

I love John Zamberlin as a human being. He is an honest, compassionate, caring person. I want him to succeed. But we all know that coaches are judged on Ws and Ls -- John knows this too, and has referenced it many times. So it doesn't really matter what I or votb or isusid think -- the bottom line is always: can you win?

I will say this -- I really like this year's recruiting class. I think we're going to see a couple more true freshmen on the field Saturday, which will make, I believe, 11 who have played this year. I think these kids have the potential to be impact players. The trick is going to be winning 3 or 4 games this year so you can continue to build on that recruiting momentum. And, if you win 3 of your 5 home games, you start to build some excitement within your fan base.

Bottom line: winning will take care of all the second-guessers, make recruiting easier and make for happier Bengals. So let's start that process Saturday!

I have just one problem with the article, ISU last won (shared) a conference championship in 2002, not 1981.

One other thing, the article correctly references the problem ISU has placed on Zamberlin with scheduling, that of leading off with FBS programs... even playing 2 in one year... even saying "It’s hard to make your record look good when ISU is cannon fodder for perennial BCS powers every year."

Yeah, saw that too. IMO, coaches should receive no less than 4 years, enough time for their players to become consistent contributors = upperclassmen.

But a one year extension makes things difficult for recruiting. I think you need to make it three more or none at all.

I think the maximum the state board will allow is 3, but I am not sure.

3 more....3 more.....3 more.....!
