From Friday's Bee, looks like the Dungpilers are preparing some deep cuts next year!

Interesting how they didn't mention any specific likely sports to be cut. I certainly hope they don't screw with Gym Causeway. That's a big rivalry.

Then again, I'm not surprised they have some of the same issues that led UOP to dumping the football team: ignoramus academecians who don't understand that atletics in general are a big part of a well-rounded education.

"When you're playing Division I athletics with smaller arenas, especially in basketball, and with a football stadium that seats just 10,800 fans," Warzecka said, "you're not going to generate those levels of gifts from donors and sponsors."

So now the questions becomes who was the genius who okay-ed a NEW football stadium with only 10,800 seats. There is some brilliant foresight and planning going on on the other side of the Causeway...and I am sure the kudos can be given to multiple people.

They will cut some of the "lesser" sports and all will be fine. It definitely sucks for them.

Today's Bee says there are 12 sports out of 27 that are on the chopping block. No sport affiliated with the Big West will be cut and no potentially revenue producing sports e.g. football and mens basketball will be cut.

It didnt say they were going to cut all 12, but they are going to cut more than a couple.

They'd better be careful with this. There were already student protests when the number floating around was 9. The administration is treading on thin ice with this.

Like they or any administration at any university gives a damn what the students think or want. So long as they stay within Title IX requirements they will get things under control. The athletic department just bit off more than it could chew with the funding of 27 sports. Again, poor planning and decision making on their administrations behalf.
