Looks like the sky is getting bigger

I don't know if any one has seen this, I just came across it today, but looks like Southern Utah, North Dakota, and MAYBE South Dakota are joining the big sky as full members.

This is another reason why I think a coaching change is needed, the big sky is about to get a hell of lot tougher. Cal Poly and UC Davis are very good teams. Southern Utah is 5-4, and just wrapped up the Great West conference title. North Dakota is 3-5 on the year, not great, probably still beat UNC though. :D

UNC has to make a change to at least stay on par with the curve, if they don't, UNC will just fall further behind.

What say you?

Contrary to what Fullerton said this is an insurance move in case other schools leave. We can't be left with our pants down if the WAC comes a calling... If you doubt that then just ask why they moved so fast when they never have before?

Second, for UNC this isn't such an impact, we are smack dab in the middle of these 3 schools so travel impact is minimized. Getting to Grand Forks isn't tough from Denver the rest of the Big Sky not so easy.

ND and SD are academic upgrades, SUU a downgrade so overall it's a gain.

12 has become the conference template now (SEC, PAC 12, Big 10, etc.) so in that regard we are in line and although the footprint is big it's hard to avoid that in this part of the country it's called the Big Sky for a reason.

And the best news of all, ND State was not included, whew!  8)

South Dakota certainly played the Big Sky like a drum... the MVFC is better fit for them but that Summit League is a rougues gallary.

Is it official or just talk that South Dakota is going to MVFC? In any event, if SD does go to the MVFC, will North Dakota stay with the Big Sky? Just seems weird that they would be left by themselves in their own conference, or is that how they want it?

I think USD made an official announcement recently. UND isn’t going anywhere but to the BSC. UND cancelled the visit by Summit League officials so it is possible UND could have also gotten a similar deal as USD had they not blown their load on the first offer they received. It is also possible that UNC could be paired with UND as a travel partner for hoops. Either way, with 11 full members (barring someone leaving) the hoops and vball schedules are screwed. It just got more expensive to travel in the BSC.

Article on Denver joining the WAC and they mention possibly Montana making the move to the BCS and joining as well:

Montana leaving would probably be best, they have proven all they need to at this level and I think the WAC they are joining they could win right away. That and then the Sky is at 10 all sports and 12 football which is about perfect.

So it appears Montana for all the big talk isn't moving up. I guess that's good news for the conference but I have to wonder what they are thinking? It's sort of the small town mentality, better to be the big shot in the hometown than go and try to make it in the big city.

I for one am glad they are still in the Big Sky. It gives our program motivation and I can't wait to kick their ass someday!! Changes are coming!!

Their just a bunch of wusses, they're afraid of experience something new. Their afraid to move outta mom's house, they'd rather get home cooking all the time. Honestly I don't think they belong at the FCS level anymore, look at their stadium, their fan base, etc. UNC will never have a stadium like that or fan base, maybe if they started winning games.

Don't worry about keping up with the Jones's regarding stadium & fan base, Wouldn't it just be nice to beat their Mantana ass !!

The only thing they have going for them is their football stadium and the fact that UM and MSU are the only tickets in town. The rest of their facilities are not good at all. Part of the reason they're not moving up is the fact that their facilities would be one of the worst in the WAC. We've passed them over as far as over-all facilities. Montana isn't as great as people think they are.
As far as your last comment, I agree the community will come out and support them once the wins start happening. You saw that in b-ball last year.
