I am NOT happy with the re-seeding concept....

At Weber State. No expected scheduling conflicts as there is with the Women's tournament.

Quarterfinals, THU 13 MAR

Game 1: #7 Sac State vs. #2 North Dakota, 2:05 PM, Big Sky TV.
Game 2: #6 Northern Colorado vs. #3 Northern Arizona, 4:30 PM, Big Sky TV.
Game 3: #5 Portland State vs. #4 Montana, 7 PM, Big Sky TV.
#1 Weber State, BYE.

Semifinals, FRI 14 MAR

Game 4: 2nd Highest Remaining Seed vs. Highest Remaining Seed, 4:30 PM, Big Sky TV.
Game 5: #1 Weber State vs. Lowest Remaining Seed, 7 PM, Big Sky TV.

Finals, SAT 15 MAR

Game 4 Winner vs. Game 5 Winner, 6 PM, ESPNU.

All times Mountain.

I'm glad we get North Dakota, another sea level team, plus we can beat them. When Sac State is hitting on all cylinders, we're hard to beat; I don't think any of the other teams would want to play us. I think Montana is the team to beat even tho Weber St has home court advantage.

I'm happy to see that Big Sky TV is carrying it; I don't think ESPN allowed that last year; you had to have ESPN3 or you were out of luck.

I agree that North Dakota is a good draw for us. I still don't think any team wants to play the Hornets at this time. If we play together, get some good contributions from the frontcourt, and REBOUND like mad men we can go far in this tourney. Beating Weber on their court will be tough but doable. Since Montana is the only team we haven't beat YET, I would like to play them on a neutral court. Hornsby and Stuteville continue to grow by the day and will become the dominant frontcourt in the BSC. GO HORNETS

I'm going to be in Ogden Wednesday so the times won't spoil my fun. I haven't driven there in years but I think it's about a 10 hour drive......anyone know for sure??????

Get on 80-E for about 9.5 to 10 hours. Or haul ass and get there in 9.

I'd suggest going in a group and having everyone take turns while one or two take naps. You can get up and move around whenever you have to stop for gas or everyone gets hungry.

Either that or leave early and drive about half way and get a hotel room en route. That is a LONG way to drive. If you try to do it by yourself in one shot, your rear end will hurt like a [bleep]....

I agree that UM is probably the toughest draw right now. The issue with UND is they are one of the hotter teams entering the BSCT aside from their SUU loss. Their top scorer (Huff) had a bad game in Sac which is one of the main reasons why we won that game. Anyone can beat anyone in this tourney (as evidence from the regular season) but the Hornets are going to have to bring their "A" game Thursday. Anything is possible.

Your right SD that Huff had a bad day against us but in the same game Jamal Webb had a career high so I think that offsets Huff's subpar performance. You could argue that McKinney had an off day in the first meeting resulting in UND winning. We will see how it shakes out tomorrow afternoon. Beautiful weather here in Ogden (65 and clear).

So proud of the Hornets for never giving up and bringing Sac State at long last back to the Big Sky Tourney. May our Hornets shine in Ogden and be the tremendous team they can be. Nothing to lose tomorrow. Just go for it from start to finish.

Go Sacramento State!!

Win or lose it was one hell of a ride this season. The Hornets exceeded my expectations as I didn't think we had the horses to make the BSCT before the season begun, and then I didn't think we could pull out a berth at the close of the season. Needless to say this team proved me wrong plenty of times and it couldn't have been any more entertaining.

Here is to hoping for an "upset" tomorrow. Go Hornets!!!

I should be able to catch the first half of the game on my lunch. Maybe the second half on the radio if it's close! I will say this...

I thought we were in for an all-timer Hornet collapse, luckily I was wrong. I think we have about a 45% chance of winning today and maybe a 5 % chance of making it to the Big Dance, but if we do... I will be there!

Hornets lead 42 to 39 at the half; this game could go down to the last shot. Garrity w/13, Demps and McKinney 11 each. Good game to watch so far; both teams in rhythm.

It looked to me like we had our chances, more than one actually, and we couldn't finish it. I did notice that Katz appeared to be yelling at one of the refs after the game; I'm wondering if that was becuz of the two offensive foul calls on us late? Despite that, we had several chances to win it and didn't get it done. Too bad - I wanted to watch us play Weber and see if we couldn't have scared them on their home court.

The crowd at the tourney is very sparse for the first round games - dismal actually. Maybe the Big Sky should consider moving it to Reno (Vegas is full); instead of getting a few hundred fans, we might get a few thousand when the host school isn't playing. Looks bad - like junior high attendance.

Well the season has finally come to an end. I'm sure coach was yelling at the one ref who never gave us one 50/50 call and actually took away three calls that should have gone our way, but we'll never get them back. I for one could not be prouder of this group of players. They play for each other and conduct themselves as men at all times. They have provided myself with plenty of entertainment and I'm sure I'm not alone. I know it's early but I think we will be one of the favorites (along with EWU) to win conference next year. Hope everyone else on this board enjoyed this season as much as I did. LOOK OUT BIG SKY......WE'LL BE BACK

I couldn’t watch any of it but it sounds like this was a hard fought game. Would have been nice to move on but this was a big step forward for this program. This team got a taste of the post season so they should be hungry for more next season. Congrats to the players and coaches for a successful season.

Next season should be interesting. With everyone returning and the only significant graduation is a role player big man off the bench (Salley) the Hornets should have some lofty goals for 2014/15. Katz will need to bring in some more depth in the front court (a FR is inked for next season) but I would say the goal needs to be a winning regular season and a win in the BSCT. The issue is with 12 teams gunning for 7 spots next year (Idaho joins the BSC) the odds for getting into the post season will be smaller.

Link? Was there a release on this from the BSC? This is the first I’ve heard of this but I like going to 8 teams in, still think the top seed(s) should get byes.

My ideal conference tourney is what the Sun Belt does (and possibly others):
Round 1:
5th seed vs 8th seed
6th seed vs 7th seed
Seeds 1-4 get byes.

Round 2: Quarter-final
3rd seed vs lowest remaining seed
4th seed vs 2nd lowest remaining seed
Seeds 1 & 2 get byes

Round 3: Semi-final
1st seed vs lowest remaining seed
2nd seed vs 2nd lowest remaining seed

Round 4: Final
Last 2 standing

Pros:
Keep the tourney at the regular season champion site. The layout listed above rewards teams that do well in the regular season. This layout very likely sends one of the top 2 seeds to the Dance to represent the BSC. This falls in line with the thinking of the BSC sending on its best team. One thing I hate is conference tournaments that let every team in; at that point why even have a regular season?

Cons:
Extends the tournament length by a day, which reduces the amount of time between the end of the regular season and the conference tournament. Makes it harder for a program like ours to ever make the Dance as I don’t see us ever doing that well in the regular season given our failure to address the facilities issues.

SD: I get your beef with the idea of every team getting into the conference tournament. There are a couple of arguments FOR it. (I'm not sure how strong those arguments are, but they're arguments nonetheless.)

First, the regular season determines seed, just as it does now. The dubious distinction of clinching last place is a blowout at the hands of the regular season champion, either on a neutral site (a la the Big West) or on said regular season champion's home court (as in the Big Sky). The risk, of course, is that said creampuff gets on a roll and becomes the third 20-loss team in NCAA history to make the Big Dance. Do we really want that "honor?"

Second, the argument that each team paid to get in, so they deserve to have a shot in the Conference Tournament. This is probably a weaker argument than the first one, since the Conference Bylaws probably delineate the tournament format, so the schools knew what they were getting themselves into when they signed up.

I still prefer the neutral site or a rotated Conference Tournament, simply because of the logistics involved. If it's a neutral site, the CONFERENCE can handle the logistics, giving them an entire year to get everything taken care of. Similarly, if the Tournament is simply rotated among Conference teams on a scheduled basis, schools know at least a year in advance that their turn is coming up, so they have a lot more time to prepare. This could ALSO be a way for the Conference to badger schools into improving their facilities, since they can always say that if your gym isn't up to snuff, you don't get in the rotation. The neutral site, of course, eliminates that entire hassle.

To each his/her own, I guess....
